So, I would like to run a Merlin fandom remix later this year, probably with signups in early August and fics posted in late September. It would be like RemixRedux in that the fics themselves would be posted at the AO3 and you'd need to qualify by having written a certain amount of them already, but different in that it would be just for Merlin FPF and Merlin RPF.

It's possible also that we'd do the matching in such a way that people could specify shipping/genre/rating preferences, whereas the big remix says that if you sign up you have to be able to work with anything in the fandom. Hand matching worked pretty well for us at [livejournal.com profile] a_conspiracy, but we only had 13 participants there. (I also did hand matching for 78 participants in...a very large number of fandoms at [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble round 6, but I'd rather not do something like that again!) I'd prefer to use the AO3's matcing process if we got more than 30 or so people, but I don't know how flexible that set-up will be since they're still working on it for RemixRedux.

Anyway, that's all a long way off, I just thought I'd mention that general intention in a public post, in case it helps people plan their commitments. Let me know if you're interested in participating or helping out, or of course if someone else is already planning to do something like this. And don't forget that sign-ups for RemixRedux end this Wednesday.

I've spent most of this weekend editing the Merlin pages at Fanlore, hanging out at the Fanlore chatroom and collaborating with some [community profile] camelot_fleet peeps and Fanlore regulars like [personal profile] facetofcathy and [livejournal.com profile] frogspace. I still find Fanlore editing to be frustrating in a lot of ways but it's helped to have that interaction by gathering to do it as a group. Tonight some of us were talking about giving it another push in a month or so, not trying to work on it all the time or we'll burn out. I think we've gotten a lot of good stuff done this weekend and I'm especially impressed with [personal profile] heathershaped's work on the Gwen character page and [personal profile] ara's on Arthur and Merlin.

If you're curious, you can see the pages I've been editing on my user contribution page. I'd be especially grateful for any feedback or suggestions (either there on the wiki or here on LJ/Dreamwidth) on the Merlin/Gwen and Merlin/Uther pages. They're both pairings I ship and pages where no one else has written anything, so I feel very much like I've just written a "This is why I like this pairing! Here are some of my favorite fics!" but dressed up in fake neutral language. :)

I think a Merlin remix later this year is a great idea!

I've been thinking about it for a long time! I really hope we can get a lot of people to join, but it probably doesn't make sense to start pimping until we get a little closer to those dates. :)

Oh yay, a Merlin remix later on would be awesome. I have restrained myself from signing up for RemixRedux because the timing is bad, so getting a chance to do Merlin remixing later would be brilliant.

Personally I'd be fine with not being matched on genres etc, but I guess not everyone's comfortable with multishipping and so on...

Yeah, the other fandom-specific remix my friend and I did a few years ago was for hobbits, where there are a lot of gen-only fans and some really strong shipping preferences (like some people seriously squicked by some pairings and others who feel bad for having their favorite pairings called squicky all the time) and we really wanted to get more people to sign up, so we wanted to reassure people they wouldn't have to write anything far out of their comfort zone. But I tend to think of Merlin fandom as being really easygoing about pairings, and even the folks who only write Arthur/Merlin don't usually have anything against the other ones. So, we'll see how many people are interested and how they feel about that once it gets closer.

I'm so glad to know this will work for you! I've been communicating with [personal profile] woldy a bit too because she really wants to remix Merlin RPF and that's not one of the qualifying fandoms at RemixRedux. Will probably need to do some serious pimping to get that to work though because I only have a few Merlin RPF writers on my f-list.

Yeah, I'd agree that Merlin fandom is easygoing about pairings - anything involving Uther or especially Gaius might squick some, but it seems pretty unlikely that someone would've written say only Uther non-con fic and sign up to be remixed.

I have basically no insight in Merlin RPF, but I hope you get it to work. Especially if we get a lot of writing time in August this Merlin remix would work so much better for me than RemixRedux. Exciting!

Hi Sophinisba - Sorry I'm popping in out of the blue -- did the Merlin remix ever happen? I was just thinking about it, because last time I remember anything about a remix where Merlin was a part, I didn't have enough Merlin fic to participate. I've never done one but would like to, and wanted to look at some examples online of past ones and/or find out if one actually had happened, would it be running again. If it hasn't happened, I'd like to start one...

Thanks!

Yup, we ran it at [personal profile] camelotremix and had 30 fics go up on the AO3 in October of 2010. I was thinking about running one again this summer/fall but hadn't quite decided yet, especially since I'm more into podficcing than writing these days. Let me know if you're interested in taking that one over or co-modding or starting a new one, and we'll figure something out. (I'll probably feel more confident once I finish writing my fic for the current round of Remix Redux, which will be sometime in the next two weeks.)

Shall we discuss it then? [Unknown site tag] and I were talking and thinking that if one wasn't going to happen by another hand, we'd take a stab at it. I'd love any and all advice you're willing to give, but how about we wait until you've recovered from Remix Redux?

Hello! So I took a while to get back to you but after having written two remix redux fics I'm feeling very happy about remix writing right now, but also thinking I'm far too anxious to try to mod one again. So I hope you and your friend (their name didn't come through in your comment) are still interested in taking it over! I could stay on as a consulting mod if you like or you can just go ahead and take over, and I'll participate as a writer as long as you don't make it LJ-only. I think running it on the AO3 worked pretty well for us last time, though it probably cut in on the feedback, especially for the people writing Arthur/Merlin fic. But things have changed so much in the last year and a half, I think that would be much less of a problem now. But there was some good "how did it go for you" discussion in one of the last LJ posts that you might want to check out. Let me know what you're thinking. :)

Right now I'm thinking OMGLOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE but I just put an offer in on a house and while the seller accepted, I have to wait for the bank to approve because it's a short sale. That can take up to three months (and sometimes more) to finish, and then we have to close and move and and and. So I think I won't be able to even think of doing it until September after school starts, but I REALLY REALLY want to do it. I'd love it you stayed on as a consulting Mod, and I think it was winterstorrm who was also interested but I'll have to go back and look. I am COMPLETELY GEEKED about doing it at the AO3 except I'm going to have to figure out how to make a collection. I tried once and got intimidated and ran far, far away. I think it's time for me to man up.

THANK YOU for getting back to me! What fandoms did you write in for your two stories?
