two fests

Today is your last chance to claim a prompt or several for the summer 2009 Gwen Battle at thefuturequeen. I'd been dithering about whether to sign up and had the tab open all week (because since RemixRedux I'd been enjoying the feeling of not having any fic writing commitments, but on the other hand, Gwen!) but decided to go for it because the minimum wordcount is only 100. I hope I will manage more than that though. I took a gen prompt which I may write as Gwen/Morgana and a Gwen/Arthur one which I may write as gen. I hope I don't get in trouble.

Meanwhile, prompts are just getting started at in_the_beginning, a Hebrew Bible fanworks fest being put on by roga and kass. Go check out the comm! Even if you don't end up making anything for it there's a great resources post and people have left a lot of really interesting prompts already. roga writes:

you should all go and leave as many prompts as you can -- all genres, all ratings, all pairings, crossovers, etc are acceptable. If you've ever tinkered with the idea of writing the story about Jacob and Rachel's first meeting, or what if Moses were a girl, or that time House was transported back in time to 967 BC -- now you have your chance!

Happy birthday, danae_b! Even though you're not online much these days I think of you all the time, like when I use the Pippin icon you made me or when I use this one and I remember when I first got it and I commented all excited to tell you I had a Pippin icon and you politely let me know it was actually Merry. :D

When I look at the fics I've written it amazes me how many of them were because of you, how reading your fics and talking with you helped me fall in love with Pippin and with Merry/Pippin and Frodo/Pippin and Frodo/Merry/Pippin but also with so many minor characters and original characters, and with the idea of writing minor characters at all without being afraid of other people calling them Mary Sues, of writing het and femslash and genfic about girls.

I remember all the good chats we had and how I could say things to you that I didn't tell anyone else, like when we'd post fics and wait together for the zillions of comments that never came or when we talked about real life. I remember how we'd e-mail each other pieces of really hot angsty Pippin trashfic that we never finished, and how you were my ally at promoting remixes in hobbit fandom and that time I came to your house and we watched the whole first season of Supernatural in, what was it? Three days? I'm so glad that we did all these things.
