Post-quest genfics
Last night I read the first chapters of two new genfics posted by friends of mine in the last week. It is so cool to see people starting new multi-chapter fics and I am really looking forward to reading more of these two.
gentlehobbit has a new fic called White Shores about Frodo on Tol Eressëa. There is angst but not too much angst, and she does a great job working in her ideas, things I'd never thought about and that give me a new perspective on LotR, without that getting in the way of the story she wants to tell.
And
shirebound is writing A Rohan Tapestry, about the hobbits coming to Rohan for Théoden's burial after the quest. It has Shirebound's wonderful light touch and will feature that rare and wonderful thing that is omg Merry healing(!!!), which, she says, "will propel Frodo into protective and wise elder-cousin mode"! Eeeee!!
This reminds me of an older genfic I read on Stories of Arda a couple months ago and meant to post about but never did: Turnabout by Ariel/
elasg, which is also post-quest featuring Merry and Frodo healing. It starts out with some kind of classic h/c – a building collapses on the two of them in Minas Tirith and there is much suspense and tension around getting them out and will they be all right – but in the later chapters it turns into a sadder and more serious thing about their relationship and what's going to happen to them after they go home.
I think post-quest is my favorite kind of h/c. I like that the hurts are substantial so when there's healing it really means a lot, and I like it when all the hobbits are their mature post-quest selves and are taking care of each other (though it's nice if there is also a big man or an elf or two or three helping out).
Yay, gen!And now I'm off t read some rps with fetishism and then write some more interspecies noncon.

I so agree! Every time I finish a story, I wonder if I'll ever be able to gather enough ideas together to write another one. I'm so happy that there are still new LOTR fics to read... and write.

I'm intrigued by your last line and hope to see the results therefrom...

Yes, a very good point. And what I also like in post-Quest h/c is seeing them each put aside their own hurts to see to that of the one in need, and how they can draw their own comfort from giving it.

Ooooh, I like that a lot.

As for mine, this and last week have been quite stressful, but all should be over by the weekend. Hopefully then I can continue writing! Thank you for your sweet words. :)

And I love it when a character gets to draw comfort by giving it! I'm thinking that's something that will come up in SB's fic. :D

Yes, it's exactly like that! Some of them get posted fairly regularly, and with some of them you never know. You just have to keep checking all the time. Just today I got to see a new chapter of a fic that was last updated 11 months ago! It was awesome.
I hope you have more time to write soon. ♥

I think I like post-quest fics so because by this time, there is a lot of water under the bridge and the Fellowship members have come to trust and love each other. I really love stories that show those bonds.
