MEFA thank yous and writing

Thanks so much, [livejournal.com profile] danachan, [livejournal.com profile] dreamflower02, and [livejournal.com profile] slightlytookish, for nominating my stories for the Middle-Earth Fanfiction Awards. I never used to think I'd have much to say about Pippin, but I've had a good time and learned a lot about the characters by writing more about him and Merry in the last year and some, and it feels great to have those stories recognized in another way. I really appreciate it. ♥

The nominated fics, by the way, are He Came to Meet Me (Pippin/Diamond), Lost in Translation (Pippin gen), Thirst (Merry gen), and the Pippin fic I posted this past Friday, If I Keep You Beside Me. Two of those were written for [livejournal.com profile] waymeet challenges and so was the fic of mine that got a MEFA last year, so thanks also to the mods of that comm for helping me get my canon gen muse on.

In less respectable news, earlier today I finally posted the incest fic I started over a year ago. After much hand-wringing I also finally got up the nerve to post a link to it at [livejournal.com profile] dimmeststar, a cool community I found that's just dedicated to the character of Merope Gaunt. I read some discussions there that made me want to make major revisions to my fic, except for the part where I don't actually want to touch that fic anymore, heh.

It's funny because for a long time I just couldn't get into the Harry Potter books. I had Prisoner of Azkaban in my room, but whenever I had the energy for reading I'd either want to read hobbit fic or NEED to read homework. But every once in a while I'd wake up in the middle of the night with menstrual cramps and feel too awful to go back to sleep OR to read anything serious so I'd read Harry Potter. It took me a really long time to get through books 3 and 4 that way. Then I ate up books 5 and 6, and after I was done sometimes I'd get cramps and get in an evil mood and think about how much being a woman sucks (I don't feel that way often, but it'll happen), and then I'd want to write really unpleasant stuff about fluids, and that's how I started writing the Merope fic. That's part of why it took me so long to finish.

Anyway, I'm also trying to finish an F/S/M/P smutfic that's even older than that. My goodness, does it have a lot of adverbs! I added a second orgasm yesterday, so only two left, and I think I can be very vague about those. Could I finish it today? Probably not, but I should still try.

Last night I sent my submissions to the mod of [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble. It's the lightning round and each of us had to write three ficlets for three different people. I had a good time with two of mine and struggled a lot on a third, but hey! Finished! And those should go up in the next few days.

My Casey/Delilah fic made it to 4000 words and is in beta.

In general I'm feeling good about the writing I've gotten done recently and about sticking to my daily writing goals all the way through June. I thought that requiring myself to write a lot of words every day would keep me from working on the details of finishing things up for posting, but I've managed to do a fair amount of that too. Yes, there are the neglected WIPs and a disturbing lack of Frodo, but I'm sure I'll get back to them in time. (And I have been writing some Frodo that I can't post yet.) It's been nice to play with a variety of fandoms but still keep the hobbits around.

I feel like giving myself a little bit of a break or at least changing my goals/routine for July, but I'm not really sure what those changes should be. Maybe something about working on specific fics rather than whatever new shiny comes along. Maybe something not related to fanfic at all, like spending a certain amount of time reading literary theory or learning Polish. Or exercising, or eating less starches and more vegetables. Eh, same lack of motivation as always as far as those things go.

But this was a positive post, so: Lots of writing! Lots of fandoms! Lots of support from my wonderful f-list! Yay for summer!
