The Eagle podfic: Ringed With Silver

Title: Ringed With Silver
Author: [personal profile] carmarthen
Reader: [personal profile] sophinisba
Fandom: The Eagle
Starring: Marcus/Esca
Rating: NC-17
Contains: piercings, masochism, reference to a past erastes/eromenos relationship (teen Marcus/adult OMC), + canonical slavery, violence, war...
Author's summary: "In which Marcus and Esca bond over their quasi-historical body piercings; Marcus pines a lot, gets hit in the face, and develops hypothermia; and Esca takes advantage of Saturnalia. A kinkmeme fill that somehow grew a plot."
Reader's notes: For the "body alteration/injury" square on my second [community profile] kink_bingo card. Thanks to [personal profile] isis for suggesting I check out this fandom (I enjoyed the movie very much!) and to [personal profile] glim for Latin help (mistakes are my own, of course). If you would like to know more about the historicity of these piercings, [personal profile] carmarthen has some very interesting notes and links on the fic post linked above.

[livejournal.com profile] ninth_eagle; I don't think there's any fandom activity (for the movie) on Dreamwidth.

(Now you need to read the book!)

Oh, I love this story, and I'm so glad you made a podfic of it! Welcome to the fandom. :)

I've just opened it up and am listening to the beginning, and I'm enjoying it. You've got a very smooth and pleasant reading voice.

Yay! Eagle podfic. :-)

I'm really pleased to see you in the fandom, and I hope you do get to read the book one day. It's been great to see a story I've loved since I was a child gain so many new fans.

I wasn't sure how well known it was outside the UK - certainly most of my keen readers friends grew up with it, but it is in some ways a very British book, I think.

Still, I'll be interested to hear what you make of it.

I saw upthread that you are looking for places to post this fic. If you haven't already, amplificathon has a presence on DW and LJ - they will ask to archive the podfic in the audiofic archive if you post there. :-)

This was fantastic. I mean, I already knew I loved your voice but I always forget how *much* I love your voice.

I keep trying to understand what it is about your readings that makes everything so overwhelmingly sexy and it's so hard for me to articulate. You don't overplay things, there wasn't even really any sex noises in this one for you to work with. I can only conclude that it's something intrinsic to your voice. So, let's never meet in real life, ok? That could get very awkward for me:D

And of course, the sexy isn't all you're bringing to your work. There's so much more, especially in this one, with the stilted formality Marcus has, his stand offishness and desire to connect with Esca even though he believes it to be impossible. And that may *sound* like I'm commenting on the writing and it's characterisation but I'm not, it's what comes through in your reading.
