Misadventures in fanfic writing

The other day I took out a file I hadn't looked at in about a month. Last time I'd worked on it, I was seeing what I could do about claudia603's excellent suggestion that there be more attention to Frodo's cuts and bruises. I'd written the beginning of a sentence:

"Frodo closes his eyes and tries to think of something else, but his mind goes immediately"

No, I did not mean to say that Frodo was losing his mind, although that happens to be a subject that comes up elsewhere in the fic. This was meant to be "his mind goes immediately to..." and then some other subject, which I imagine I meant to be unpleasant and disturbing. But I left off there, and at this point I have NO IDEA where I thought his mind was going! Where is my mind going? I can't remember this for the life of me! I cannot finish this sentence (and therefore cannot finish this fic)! It is a lost cause!

In other news, I had a very pleasant Thanksgiving the with twenty members of my extended family now living in the area. Yesterday seventeen of us saw the new Harry Potter movie and I liked it pretty well, especially the sad and scary parts.

Nah, it's something I added in after you sent that chapter back (right before the part with the hair), so you wouldn't have seen it. I seriously can't figure out where to go with that bit now; it's ridiculous.

*hugs back* It may need to be taken out, which is really very silly, as I'm sure I had something specific in mind at some point. Could have just jotted it down, but no. *sigh*

D'oh! Though it wasn't the same scenario, I had a similiar problem happen during my lastest chapter of Rainstorm. I was writing it, knowing exactly where it was going and then everything went blank. I hope it will come back to you. Perhaps trying to re-read the past chapters of the fic you were trying to write to see if you can recall what you were trying to write.

Oh, man, I have reread every chapter of this fic so many times! This bit I was trying to add really doesn't have that much to do with the rest of the story anyway, just a bit of gratuitous "Hey, there's a cut on Frodo's lip, let's all think about that some more," so it might be best for all concerned if I leave it out. It's just funny not knowing where the rest of that sentence went. Serves me right for being so fickle about my writing.
