There's also a great variety of great fic going up at
elfmoot2007, where we're posting what we wrote for the writing challenge this weekend. A lot of people are still traveling so more fics will continue to go up when folks get settled back home and have time to post them. Several people who hadn't written fic in a really long time wrote great new stuff for this challenge, and it was really wonderful hearing them read out loud in the hotel room on Sunday.
I just did a drabble, Merry-centric, gen, G. The words I drew out of the cup were embarrassed, crooked, breakable.
Merry hadn't minded the tall men in the tavern with their crooked smiles and beery eyes. He'd just needed fresh air, quiet and time to think.
He ran all the way back to the inn, though his breath was thin and his confidence shattered – Merry, who'd never imagined himself so breakable. A lot of good a stout heart will do, he thought, if you fall in a faint whenever the enemy is close. But no use in being embarrassed or pretending for these strangers that he'd been brave. All that mattered was to get the news back to his friends.

I like that a lot. What a strange and terrifying experience for Merry, all alone in the Darkness.

That moot sounds like *so* much fun. Everyone writing! Eee.

The idea that his confidence would be shaken (along with his world-view) is one I hadn't considered before.
