B2MEM: I swear, the Grey Havens angst kills me every single time.

So, this morning I read a wonderful Frodo/Merry fic an older Frodo fic exchange, Borders by grievous_angel (you can give her feedback here if you haven't already), and ended up in tears, even though I was sitting in a bagel shop with a bunch of people around and cheesy music playing.

Then this evening I'm rereading a part of ROTK that I didn't expect would upset me at all, and I got hit with the Grey Havens angst again! I seem to have committed to writing a Merry/Pippin fic (yeah, I'm not sure how it happened either) and I was reading the scene in the chapter "The Last Debate" where Legolas and Gimli are telling Merry and Pippin about their recent adventures, and Legolas says how now that he's seen the sea he feels a longing to leave.

"Say not so!" said Gimli. "There are countless things still to see in Middle-earth, and great works to do. But if all the fair folk take to the Havens, it will be a duller world for those who are doomed to stay."

"Dull and dreary indeed!" said Merry.

I know they're talking about Legolas and the Elves, and not Frodo. But still, WHAHHH! I have nothing profound or insightful to say about this, just needed to say ow.

You know -- ow. I hadn't ever thought of that of it like that, but now that I have, you're right. No insight here, either (which isn't new), but that is rather ow.

Frodo is fair, so it totally applies. And here Merry starts pleading with Legolas not to leave, but Legolas doesn't even leave until after Merry and Pippin are dead. Merry doesn't even realize he's going to lose Frodo! Frodo!!!!!!!

And the M/P is coming along, slowly but surely. Getting close to 1500 words and SOOOOOO much more left to write. Nowhere close to the sex part yet.

I can't even look at Gray Havens fics and it's hard for me to watch ROTK for that reason..ANGST!!

See, I love angst, and I LOVED grievous_angel's fic, but I do usually like to be prepared for it, and that paragraph came at me out of nowhere. :(

You SEE why I had to write "Healed"? I had to bring all the hobbits together again in the West, joyous and beginning new lives. And there they live, happy and together, to this day.

"Sing Me Home" is so helpful for the Frodo/Sam fan in me, but I'm feeling so much Merry love lately I think I need to see him and Pippin in the West as well, even if it isn't canon.
