Challenges
With much help and encouragement from
danachan, I've written a Merry/Pippin fic for the Location challenge over at
waymeet. It takes place just after the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, on March 16th and 17th in Minas Tirith, and is not cute or lighthearted, though it has its moments. (I wanted to post it on the 17th, but I was too damn slow.) It's my first hobbit slash fic and my first sustained attempt at canon compliance so it was, well, a challenge, but I enjoyed writing it a lot. It is quite long (over 11,000 words) and rated a hard R. The Silent Street
I've written, oh, maybe half of my Frodo spring challenge fic and am enjoying that a lot too, though it's a bit scary. It's, again, somewhat different territory from anything I've tried before, and yet I think anybody who knows me will be able to spot my story right away. Oh my, the same words, the same ideas, over and over again! I'm pretty well aware of it, but I can't seem to think of any other way to say things. :)
kissing_athelas has set up an informal challenge over here at
domlijah. The theme is "drinking games" and fics (of any length) are due April 1st. March 31st is
absolutefiction's birthday and she deserves much happiness, so I hope a lot of people join in. (Why no, my motives for pimping this challenge are not selfish in the least.) I believe this challenge will inspire a lot of Old School, First Time, New Zealand type Dom/Elijah fics, and that thought makes me very happy. Though of course other scenarios, including wacky AUs, would also be lovely especially if they involve drunken robots omg.
April 1st is also, of course,
abby_normal's birthday and will be celebrated again this year with Frodo/Merry Day, which can also be Frodo and Merry Day if slash isn't your thing or if the slash muse is absent.
Now, I realize this happened by complete coincidence. Carole doesn't read rps as far as I know, and Abfic is more of a Frodo/Sam fan when she goes for hobbit fic. However, as a fan of both pairings, I'm really quite thrilled, and I love that they happen to be coming on the same day. I hope we get loads of wonderful new fic out of both these challenges.
airgiodslv is interested in organizing a lotrips challenge in which writers will be paired up, and each partnership given a prompt to write a fic collaboratively. An effort will be made to match up people who get along well but haven't written together in the past. Doesn't this sound like fun? Go comment here if you think you might like to play. Does anyone think this might be something cool to try out with hobbit (including interspecies) fic as well?

LJ is great because your friends' birthdays become holidays, so many fics get written for them.

I feel the same way about my stories!

No more challenges for me for the time...not until my muse gets more manageable! :-)

I'm also half, or more, through my Spring Challenge. It's been a pleasure writing it, is all I will say. *looks shiftily for her secret recipient*
I also do not read RP anything. I do enjoy M/F, so I'll put on my thinking cap for Abby's bday. Thanks for the reminder!

Many of my Hobbit_smut entries are 11,000 words long. No sweat!
