Happy birthday sophrosyne31!

Today (well, yesterday where she is, but in any case April 5th) is sophrosyne31's birthday. I celebrated this morning by rereading Regarding Elijah. Then this evening I saw suzy74's post asking for fics about the fellowship of the cast, and of course someone else was faster than me in coming up with Epiphany. I had realized in between these two events that these are two of my favorite New Zealand fics ever. She also does fabulous AUs, and snippets, and random things, and Harry Potter/Brideshead Revisited crossover omg. And of all the lotrips people she's been one of the sweetest and most welcoming to me as a reader. Hooray for her turning 34!

thank you. yeah sophrosyne is one of the best writers ever ever ever. so beautiful and hot and she somehow brings in the invisible world of inner and outer space that's always moving in and out of each other that we often forget and yet she never mentions anything. just. it's like. there.

I usually prefer really simple writing, but with her there are always words I don't know, and metaphors I've never seen before, and it all totally works. What other fics of hers have you liked? There are a lot that I haven't read yet.

it's a joy knowing YOU, you know! sweetness! thank you so so much for the birthday wishes (and for reading my ole fic! golly). you just made me so incredibly happy for the morning. i'll be thinking about this all day. (yes i am easily flattered.) such a smile!

btw i've been meaning to ask you for ages: are you named after sophinisba anguissola the painter? it's such an unusual name. i saw one of her selfportraits recently and it looks exactly like someone else on my flist... so there's some kind of nice circularity about that sophinisba.

And no, I actually hadn't heard of Anguissola before, and just looking around on the web it looks like she's a Sophonisba (one of the ways LJ friends sometimes misspell my name). I've been meaning to explain my username for ages, come to think of it, but will do it in a locked post rather than here.

Huh. Looking around a bit, I appear to have misspelled my own name as well! Who would have thought? I'm named after another Sophonisba. I checked at the time I set up the account and... Oh well. It's mine now, I guess. What about Sophrosyne? Where did that come from?

well, wherever it comes from or however it's spelt (woops), sophonisba's a fabulous name. it sounds kind of old testament. very euphonius!

sophrosyne is greek, she's one of the variants on the three muses i think, and represents something like 'excellence and moderation'. my dad put it as a kind of blessing on my birthnotice in the paper and everyone mistook it for my actual name, so it's been my alias ever since. ta-dah!
