I wish I had been paying attention and had found out about fandom_mashup earlier so I could have encouraged more of my friends (especially multifandom enthusiasts like danachan and geniusartist) to join. I happened to see absolutefiction's post about an hour before the submission deadline and got my comment in with only a few minutes to spare. It looks like a lot of fun -- it's run like a remix except that you need to use two or more of your subject's stories and mash them up into something new. I got assigned to fluffyllama and am enjoying getting familiar with her stuff. I'm excited because she writes in fandoms that I'm familiar with but haven't written in before (Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) so I will more or less be forced to do something new and challenging for me.

I'm also very excited about wtf27, a challenge community with no deadlines that I encourage all of you to check out. It's a little like fanfic100 and those others with the big damn tables, except there are only 27 prompts and it's all about the crack! So prompts include "Pornstars" and "Mpreg" and "High School AU". You can write in as many different fandoms as you want (or just one!), and unlikely pairings and cracktastic crossovers are not only allowed but encouraged. Woohoo!!

Should make for some nice variety since I'll also be doing my best to write some relatively canon-compliant hobbit genfic for waymeet this next month.

Isn't that exciting? The waymeet challenges always bring out something unexpected in me that I didn't know was there.

Oh, I know! The story I wrote for waymeet a couple months ago was so different from anything I'd done before and it was just a wonderful writing experience. I have a bunny for the new one two, though not very well developed.

I'm very excited to have signed up for a Waymeet challenge after not doing the last several ones, due to lack of energy, etc.

I'm going to do gen for this one, I think, since I don't feel inspired to do hobbit slash and interspecies isn't allowed. And given the title that I have, I think it's rather canon post-questish anyway...LOL! Or maybe I'll contemplate and think outside the box..:D

I couldn't do the last one because it was a busy time with RL and because, seriously, sports just don't inspire me at all. I'm hopeful about this one though. My title actually fits in a little with a Shirebunny that's been nibbling quietly for a couple of months now!

I was going to write for waymeet this challenge... well, I did, but I didn't finish anything, and then I was so buried under my writer's block that it was a painful thing to try and push to get anything done. So, now I'm thinking that I'll take another look at the story, anyhow, see how it goes.

I saw fandom_mashup before, but wasn't sure I'd be able to do anything with it. So, I probably should have signed up for it, but I think I'm trying to cut down on challenges. And yet, on the other hand, wtf27 looks absolutely beautiful.

I think I need to go off line and try really, really hard to finish my Stokely fic this afternoon. Actually I tried that a couple hours ago but there were no electrical outlets at the cafe where I took my computer! But I'm going to try again in a bit. Once I finish I can cross of Tentacles! on the wtf27 table. You should totally sign up for that one! I think it would be a great way to ruin your reputation, like we've talked about. And there are no deadlines so no pressure, just crack! I think it'll make a nice balance with the waymeet stuff. fandom_mashup is probably the one I'm still most nervous about.

I want you to finish your Stokely fic, because I want to read it a lot. So, I think I'll be okay with you not being on this afternoon. *grin* The problem with wtf27 is that I really don't know what I'd do with it, fandom wise. I know, you don't have to stick to one thing, and stuff, but I'm 99.something percent all about the hobbits. (You tagged me as a multifandom enthusiast, which was flattering. I'm not sure how true that tag is, though.)

Whatever I end up doing, I want to end up having fun with it. Actually, I think I need to get back to the Troubles fic I'm working on. Cause I have been having fun with it.

Every day I think, "Today I will finish the Stokely fic," and yet that keeps failing to happen. And I don't expect all that many people to read it (or I have to keep telling myself not to expect people to read it), which is a shame because I like it better than my other Faculty fics. Oh well.

I'm happy that you're having fun with the Troubles fic. I'm interested to see what you do with my request but, as you probably realized, even more interested in Aprilkat's with the Rosie/Marigold.

That fandom mashup challenge sounds like fun, Soph! So do you think you'll be writing an HP fic?? In any case -- I look forward to what you produce. My friend shighola is a multi-fandom girl, too, and she is a Buffy enthusiast. There's one story she's been trying to get me to read for ages, but I've never watched Buffy so I don't whether I would enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed for all its nuances. Anyway, shighola is also doing the wtf27 challenge.

I don't know yet whether I'll be doing an HP fic or a Buffy one. I'm leaning towards HP at the moment because I like the characters fluffyllama uses there (she has some Snarry, btw). Buffy could be fun too but I think I'm mostly interested in Joss's verses for the femslash, for some reason. It might also depend on whether I get a chance to read HBP before I need to write the fic. I'd feel pretty weird trying to write a fic in that universe without even having read all the books.

I wonder if I've read some of her fics? (I'll check in a bit.) Yeah -- HPB definitely changed the landscape of HP fics, especially with the Severus/Harry pairing. When you get around to reading it, you'll understand why. (Although you might already what's happened from reading post-HPB fics.)

BTW -- I just posted earlier about this yaoi anime called Ai No Kusabi. I'm reading a fanfic based off it called "Taming Riki" ... my stomach's growling, but I don't want to move from my computer until I've finished the story. LOL! Eh. I'm really hungry, though. *goes off to whip up quick late lunch*

Well, I do my best to avoid reading HBP fics but I blunder into them sometimes. Some people do spoiler warnings and some don't, which is understandable, I know, since the book's been out for almost a year now. I've just read the first 170 of it sitting in the book store last night and today, think I could pretty easily finish it that way, but if I want to try to do a fic it'd probably be better to have at least a borrowed copy to consult at home. I am loving the book so far, though perhaps not quite so much as 5. If I do end up going that way for the fic, how would you feel about betaing? *bats eyelashes*

And, yeah, I think it's good to have HBP at home for canon consult. Although if you have any problems getting a borrowed copy, the fandom is pretty vast for resources for writers -- The HP Lexicon (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/index-2.html) might be helpful. They have chapter by chapter notes for all the books that have been released so far.

Yay, thank you! And I actually just came across the HP Lexicon last night, browsing arounds another fanfic community. What a terrific resource!

Another trip to the bookstore this afternoon and I'm now on page 233 and really feeling the urge to write (Gaunt) incest fic which is never something I've had to deal with before omg loving it, might pick up a used copy tomorrow morning.

Gaunt? To please elaborate. And, er, I went through a sekrit Harry/James period during which I read fic that was all sorts of wrong but I found disturbingly hot anyway. I think the last train from hell left the station way, way long ago. Heh.

Merope/Morfin, Merope/Marvolo, and Merope/Tom Riddle Sr. I mean, it's practically there in canon, you know? This would not be a smutfic or intending to be hot in any way, just wrong and sad. Also it would talk about how she learned to make potions. I've actually written like 1000 words of it already though I haven't had a chance to read any more of the book.

I know the feeling! The first time I posted a Snarry fic to a public comm I was sweating bullets. I'm sure your story will be fantastic. If it helps, I'll hold your hand the entire way. *winks*

Speaking of Snarry fics ... *coughs* I was wondering, would you be willing to beta my Snarry fics for me? I don't churn them out very quickly so I won't bombard you with them. I could really use a second eye, though, and a scrutinizing one at that! There's a fic that I just inadvertently turned into a series (dammit!) and I'd love it if you could give the subsequent parts a thorough reading before I post 'em public. Whadya think?

Hey there, sorry for not getting back to you right away. Stuff has gotten in the way of Internet time and I am actually quite far behind on your Snarry fics, but of course I'd love to beta, as long as you're not planning to spoil me for HBP. Mind you, not being immersed in the fandom, I'll probably make a lot of comments along the lines of "What's going on? Where are we?" Or you could tell me to leave that business alone and stick to commas and such, just let me know what you're looking for. Yay!

omFg I just got to chapters 34-35 where Harry decides to go with it and enjoy it. And I mean. I kink over slave fic, that shouldn't surprise you at that point, I went for it because of the slave thing, but once it turns consensual and Harry's teasing and Snape wants to take care of him and alksjd flsk a;sljsd ;la kjsd ;alskdj slk dlskdjs. You know? *clears throat* And Houston was lovely. Yay hobbits!

I don't know that I'll post about it because Claudia and Shirebound have done such a good job telling everybody what we did. I have some thoughts about how it's been good for my attitude toward fandom but they're a little... I don't know, maybe too thoughtful for right now, when we're mostly still squeeing. Also very self-centered, which is funny because the point I'd be trying to make is that the moot made me less self-centered, heh.
