I got my podfic_bingo card! This post has some negative reactions but they are personal ones and not meant as criticism of the challenge! I still think this is a really cool thing.

I hope it is okay to say I am not really excited about a lot of these. Some of the squares on my kink-bingo card scared me when I first got them too but they've all ended up being really interesting and things I was glad I did. I don't mean to put down anyone's ideas in this post 'cause I'm sure they'll work for some people, but a lot of the squares for reading a certain way give me a strong feeling of Do Not Want, while the ones for reading a certain kind of fic seem almost too easy. I've already recorded Yuletide fics and and het and slash fics and fics by friends and fics about female characters and it won't be difficult to find more I want to do. I don't think I've done a first person one or a crossover but those are also very doable.

But the idea of posting an unedited recording is...idk, a lot like the idea of going outside without clothes on, both in that it would make me feel exposed and ridiculous and also, who else would want that? I mean other than someone who doesn't do podfic and wants an idea of just how tedious the editing is? Also why would I abridge? I can't really imagine doing that unless it was for one of my own fics, and even then, I don't know why anyone would want to listen. The idea of reading angrily or drunkenly is also pretty freaky to me. I actually just read a fic the other day (haven't edited yet) where the POV character was drunk, and the narrative said he was slurring his words some but I couldn't really make myself do it. (I did make myself sing though omg.) On the other hand I did read kind of tipsily when I did Claudia's Frodo/Faramir bondage fic back in September.

But that is all fine! Because the idea is that we should do things that we wouldn't normally do, pushing out of our comfort zones and all that. That was certainly the way with kink-bingo; when I first got that card I didn't think I could do public humiliation and now I feel like it makes its way in to every other fic I try to write. /o\ So who knows, maybe soon I will be adding echo effects on half my podfics. :D

I like the fact that we have a whole year to try to make a bingo or a blackout or whatever. Right now I'm working on a bunch of little things for chromatic_podfic, about to start a bigger one (or maybe two?) for podficbigbang, and will probably do a couple more for kink_bingo before May. So I probably won't start in on podfic_bingo right away, but it's good to have these prompts in mind. I think the bottom line across would probably be the easiest.

I also really like that paraka gave us html tables so I can come back and edit in the links (and maybe also color in the squares!) as I go. :) It's annoying that the table borders don't show up on Dreamwidth though.

Maybe a really short fic for the unedited one? Or a series of drabbles so you could do each one in a single take? (I don't know, would joining them up count as editing?) Or maybe like the public humiliation square on your kink_bingo card you will come to relish the nakedness and exposure and want to run outside without your editing clothes on all the time!

The "splice fics together" square looks really interesting to me! And what's the "read with silence" one about? Is that like an absence of sound effects/music, or something more?

I was thinking about this. The first one I finished and posted was a 200-word fic and I got through it by reading it over and over until I got through the whole thing with no mistakes, so there was only minimal editing. I don't know if that's cheating. I also don't know if I would read differently if I were planning to post without editing, like I probably wouldn't go back to the beginning of the sentence the way I usually do. I would just correct myself in the moment and go on, so it wouldn't give any actual idea of what the editing is like, but maybe it would be interesting in its own way.

I believe that reading with silence is letting really long pauses happen, and I am happy to have that one. There are some that I need to look into more, including the splicing fics together and gossip.

I think that your chromatic_podfic and podficbigbang submissions can count for podfic_bingo too, as relevant.

And hey! If there's anything you're uncomfortable with, but decide that you want to try anyway, I did land the "collaboration" square ;)

Double dipping could work - I do have het, slash, female-character, Yuletide fics, and mild drunkenness among my chromatic_podfic projects already, though I probably wouldn't want to count the ones I'd recorded before I even got this card.

I do love collaborations though! Will probably be doing one for podficbigbang, in fact. Do you have any ideas for what you'll do with it yet?

I love how picks you have for chromatic_podfic! I'm so excited for the results of that fest.

I've really enjoyed doing collabs too. I don't have anything in particular in mind - I think I'm going for a blackout, but I haven't thought to that square yet, not really - but if you're interested, I'll keep it in mind. Any suggestions you have are welcome too!

Good luck with podficbigbang. That strikes me as a great way to kick off your resolution to more longfic.

I am excited about chromatic_podfic too, although I'm a little stalled on it at the moment. I've been putting off settling down to do the one where I'll need to say a few words in Chinese, although I am really happy to have a beta to help me with that.

I haven't started on my bigbang stuff either, except that I sort of have. Like, the reason I signed up for that challenge in the first place was so that I could have some support doing my last one, The Unbroken Thread, only that turned out not to be that difficult so I just went ahead and posted it. :D The two I'm planning to work on for bigbang are actually about the same length as that one but I am really looking forward to the collaborative part of it.
