New fic link: Seeing in the Dark

This morning I posted my entry for the Ash Nazg challenge over at hobbit_smut. As I mentioned a few days ago, this is one of the first ideas I ever had for a fanfic and I'd been meaning to write it for a long time, but then I had a lot of trouble finishing it what with the guilt over the Frodo torture and all. There is a certain magic about deadlines though, isn't there?

Like other stories in the challenge, this is an AU where somebody claims the Ring and, as you might expect, things do not go well for our beloved hobbits, so if you click please be prepared for much unpleasantness. ETA: And I suppose I should say something about the actual story, heh. This is one where Sam goes through with his decision in "The Choices of Master Samwise" to carry the Ring now that Frodo's gone. Stars Frodo and Sam with special appearances by Gollum, Sauron, and the Mouth of Sauron. Here is the link!

Hee. It is just such a strange thing, trying to write for a community and for a deadline. I mean, you remember how for the last few months every time we talked I'd be grumbling about how I wasn't going to be able to finish my challenge fic?

And it was like, the battle of two brands of guilt. Part of me hated writing it for the gratuitous violence, but another part of me felt all guilty about signing up for a challenge (and keeping someone else from signing up to write Sam!) and then not coming through. So all in all not the best writing experience I've ever had, but it's also true that I'd been wanting to do this for the longest time, and if it hadn't been for the challenge I know it would still be sitting on my hard drive with a little over 1000 words.

I read your story on Dana's rec, even though I read very little hobbitfic these days, and I just wanted to tell you it's *spectacular*. I love how you showed that taking the Ring, even if it's destroyed at the end, can lead to such horrors. Well done.
