Elijah Wood arrives in Chile and spends the afternoon at a vineyard
Relaxed, smiling, but indefectibly distant from any media contact. That's the first image that the U.S. actor Elijah Wood projected yesterday upon arriving in the country. The man who became famous by giving life to the hobbit Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy arrived at 11:40 A.M. on LanChile flight 531 from New York.
Moving swiftly and accompanied by security personnel, Wood left the Pudahuel airport by one of the side routes, far from the traditional central doorway reserved for the general public. He was quickly boarded onto a van, without time for photographs and much less for any kind of statement.
Once at the San Cristóbal Sheraton Hotel, Elijah Wood – accompanied by his girlfriend Pamela Racine, of Thai origin, drummer for the band Gogol Bordello – found time [literally space] to give a few polite phrases. "This is my first visit to Chile, so I'm really excited about the idea of seeing some of it. I'll be in the country for three or four days," he told La Tercera as he was being conducted toward the presidential suite located on the 22nd floor of the San Cristóbal Tower. A little later he managed to say, "It was a good trip, pretty calm". Then the elevator doors closed, while his habitual smile and famous big eyes at least showed his good mood.
The presidential suite where he and his companion are staying costs three thousand dollars a night – about 1.6 million pesos. Among other features, the room has 300 square meters, a 360 degree view of the city, a marble bath, and carpets and robes made of Egyptian cotton.
Visit to Santa Rita
At about three in the afternoon, Wood left in a large van for Santa Rita vineyard, always accompanied by his girlfriend and by the communications agent Daniela Festa, his representative in this country. In the vehicle there were representatives from the Museum of Fashion, owned by businessman Jorge Yarur, with whom Wood had also scheduled to go out for a meal in the evening.
It is precisely the BCI stockholder [Yarur] who invited the actor to the country for the inauguration of the museum, tonight at 7:30. The event has an exclusive guest list, which includes the Minister of Culture, Paulina Urrutia. Wood has a confirmed first-class ticket on a LanChile flight to New York Friday night. On his day off – tomorrow – he will go outside of Santiago.
