Happiness day 11: Coldplay

I really like Coldplay's new album, Viva la Vida. I think I like it as a whole album better than A Rush of Blood and X and Y even though those have some songs that I like better than any of the new songs. Most of the new songs don't really stick out to me but I like the way they fit together. I think Parachutes is still my favorite but I've only had the new one for a week so it's hard to say.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by how much I love Coldplay (and U2), like if I were really cool I'd be into some indie bands nobody else had ever heard of. I remember when X and Y came out and there was some interview where Elijah said it sucked. I was all, Damn it, Elijah, you're the reason I started listening to this band in the first place, and now you abandon me? But so it is. I am hopelessly mainstream.

It probably helps that I don't really get sick of music from hearing it a lot, unless it's something that I wouldn't have liked anyway. So I haven't really listened to anything but this album for the last week. (Except today I listened to Zooropa twice and it was still awesome.) You know how people say that "Clocks" got played way too much? I agree, but only because that meant that everybody else got sick of it, so now they don't want to hear it anymore. I can still listen to it over and over. I love the songs on more recent albums that are similar to it, with their funny little piano ostenato phrases.

I think I read something a few years ago that said that "Clocks" was the "Where the Streets Have No Name" (or maybe it was one of those other Joshua Tree songs, or I could totally be making this up, I don't remember) of its generation, that it makes everyone who listens to it feel like they're the star of their own movie. I love that. This is how their music makes me feel in general. I am the star of my own movie!

lol! I'm not even cool enough to know how Coldplay sounds, much less the "cooler" indie bands, lol!

What a great post! I love Coldplay too-have all their albums and when they come onto the radio, turn it right the way up and let loose with the singing. I just like tracks that can live in your head way after you've heard them and Coldplay do that so well.

I love Coldplay and U2 as well. I think I almost wept when I wasn't able to go to the U2 concert that was held in Norway a couple of years ago.

Eh, who cares about 'coolness'? Listen to what makes you happy, and good for Coldplay for making you happy!
