Day 23 of happiness: Barack Obama!

Today I'm happy that Barack Obama is our candidate and I think he'll be our next president. He's not perfect but I think he's the best major-party presidential candidate I've ever had the chance to vote for and I'm excited about that. And of the people who seem to have been on the short list I'm really glad he went with Biden.

yay!! I 100% agree. And you know what? We were discussing how probably he won't be able to do a darn thing against all the crap that has happened over the past 8 years but it's kind of like turning the ship just a tiny bit to avoid hitting the iceberg. But it's 100 times better than McCain being in office.

Yeah, it is difficult, knowing he won't be able to do as much as he'd like and even now he can't commit to policies that we would like and suspect he would probably want (glbt rights omg) because he can't be that far left and still get elected. And even though I like Biden it was kind of depressing today when some of the pundits were saying this pick was good because Biden is Irish Catholic and that will be reassuring to Democratic voters who "have trouble understanding where Barack Obama comes from" and it's like, what's underneath that is that he had to get a white guy on the ticket to reassure the racists in the party and arrrgh. And yet! It seems like he needs to do these things to get elected, and I really want him to get elected! It's not just a lesser-of-two-evils thing, for me at least, I really think he will make a good president, even if he can't do all the things I would like him to do. (I may delete this comment and write a shorter, blander one in a minute if I get too self-conscious, I don't know. ♥)

don't delete -its a great comment. I envy you the chance to vote. I heard him in 2004 and he was amazing.

If he gets there he'll have a hell of a job to do. Such a mess to have to face.

Hee, all right then, I shall keep the bland post outside the cut and the ambivalent comment underneath. :) You know, I go to school with a lot of people who aren't US citizens and I remember we had some discussions four years ago about what a privilege it was for those of us who are to get to vote in our elections. After all, it's the whole world that gets screwed over by Bush staying in the presidency but they don't get any say in the matter and I do. And I feel so much better voting for Obama than I did for Kerry or Gore or Clinton!

My dad actually feels the same way and he's been active in Democratic politics since the sixties! I am hopeful. This could be a real turning point for us.
