Ooooh.. dark fic - this was terrific! I really enjoyed the ring's silky tone - it froze my heart for poor Frodo slave.

ithiliana to you. She has just begun exploring this genre, to great effect I feel. Go to her lj and you'll see she has a special area dedicated to darkfic.

She's one of my favorite writers, and she's written a wonderful variety of stories, both FPS and RPS. I recommend them all, actually.

airgiodslv. She pretty much only does RPS but some of it is that way AU kind that isn't even so much about our actors as new and interesting characters played by them. Her fics aren't usually really dark, but there's a lot of ambiguity in them that I enjoy. Last week I read a terrific sci-fi one called Futures Possible (and

aprilkat, David Wenham is in it!) and right now I'm in the middle of one about vampires.

Thanks for the rec - I just went back and read Futures Possible, and it's amazingly well-written. (David's a bit slow, isn't he?) I couldn't figure out how she would bring it to an end, and really liked her resolution.

She just recently posted a snippet of a sequel to that one, and should be encouraged to do more, in my opinion.

I love this. It's dark but beautifully written. It expresses Sam's love for Frodo very well. And the first 4 lines? Except for the word 'it' I think Sam could be refering to Frodo as well as the ring.

Only now I'm dissatisfied, because you reminded me that I really did want it to be ambiguous, so for the first four lines you would think it was the Ring but then you'd realize he meant Frodo. This makes me want to write it again, in Spanish (where there's no difference between he and it if the noun is masculine).

Not quite as visually satisfying, but it's something, anyway, and I do think the ambiguity works better in this version.

There're a lot of these alternative endings going around about what happened at the Crack of Doom and this one is very fascinating indeed. If I'm not mistaken Tolkien himself was thinking of having Sam pushing Frodo along with himself into the chasm.

That Spanish version looks intriguing. Wish I could read Spanish!

The Spanish version is pretty much the same, except that for instance, "yo lo toco" could mean "I touch him" or "I touch it," and the same thing for the lo in "tenerlo aqui conmigo," so hopefully you wouldn't see the shift until you get to Frodo's name.

In my lurking days I didn't think I would ever write any fics myself, but I thought I might make a contribution to the community by translating fics between English and Spanish. Only I never ended up meeting anyone who writes hobbitfic in Spanish, so I had to do my own.

And as for alternative endings, *cough* I've written around 10,000 words and have a lot of notes for an AU story about what happens to Frodo after Sam falls into the chasm. It's not really dark but it's angsty as all get-out. And I think you'll like the fic Claudia's betaing for me now, considering how similar our kinks seem to be.

lilybaggins betas the Frodo-in-jail story whenever I come up with a new chapter. The one Claudia's looking at is pretty much finished already, though I'm not all that happy with the ending I have. It's one of those "X takes the Ring" stories, but I'm hoping people won't find it completely derivative.

The Sam-less Frodo monster angst story won't be ready for posting any time soon, I don't think. I really only have bits and pieces, but I am fond of some of the pieces I have. Your interest is really encouraging.
