more Merlin stuff

A friend of mine has mentioned that she's interested in Gwen/Morgana as a pairing but doesn't have time to watch a new show right now, and I was thinking it would be nice to point her to some kind of quick introduction, like a picspam with explanatory text or a really good vid or something like what they do at [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto, but then I didn't actually know of a post like that. Anyone have any good links for us?

It was sort of funny, [personal profile] briar_pipe made a thread for discussing smut at the [community profile] camelot_fleet party this weekend, and I made a subthread for discussing femslash smut, which had me so inspired that I then went to a different thread to offer to write some smut, but the only prompts I got were for het. :) That was fun though, I had good time writing them, even though the party was pretty much over by the time I finished and was able to post.

[livejournal.com profile] claudia603 and I were chatting last night about how much of Merlin fandom seems to happen in LJ/DW comments, especially in collapsed subthreads. Claudia's pretty much refusing to get involved with any of that on principle because it's so damn confusing, and she's got enough fic to read without it. I agree that it's frustrating but I like the [community profile] camelot_fleet parties so much that I'm going with it. And it's good, I mean, before I started writing comment fic I was barely writing anything in this fandom. And I've had a lot of great things to read there and at [livejournal.com profile] kinkme_merlin, and there have been kissing memes and friending memes and thing-athons, and in general it's a lot of fun and nice to see so much fic and so much exuberance. Still, I really do prefer reading fic in journal entries, where linking is simpler and editing is possible and pages have titles and leaving a comment doesn't make you lose your place and where entries can be sorted by tags. *sigh*

Seems like there's a lot of comment fic in the new Star Trek fandom too. Or is it just a panfandom thing now, or has it been going on forever and I'm just now noticing it? I don't know, I'm reminding myself of the grumpy people in LotR fandom who used to complain that LJ was ruining fandom and we'd all be better off if we went back to zines (when you'd maybe get a piece of feedback every few years). I remember laughing at those people, and I also remember being a newbie and one of the youngest people in my fannish circle of friends, whereas I now seem to be old in Merlin fandom, at least from the looks of Camelot Solstice signups. :P

Ooh, speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] camelotsolstice is taking sign-ups for pinch hitters. Looks like maybe PHs will also get something written or drawn for them? I'm not sure how that works. Anyway, I know some people were bummed that the initial sign-ups closed so fast, so if you're still interested in participating, there's that.
