Amazing healing power of fanfic

Yesterday afternoon I was feeling a little sad, and somehow even all the gorgeous pics of a certain young man in a bright yellow t-shirt weren't doing much to cheer me up. I considered writing a whiny, cryptic post to elicit virtual hugs from my f-list, but I confined myself to whining a little at claudia603 and then went home and read shirebound's Sing Me Home, and had a good, satisfying cry. I've been feeling much, much better since then.

Yea, Janet! The Lord of the Rings now has a heartbreakingly beautiful happy ending in my mind, and she didn't even have to go AU! How does she do this?! The woman's talent is staggering!

You sweetie! Sometimes I'm still not sure I really wrote "Sing Me Home" -- it's as if it started to weave its own Music all by itself, and I just frantically typed and tried to keep up. I'm so so so happy it was a healing, happy read for you. I just *had* to give our hobbits a happy ending!

Oh, dear, I know "candid" can be polite code for "rude," and I hope no one got the idea that I have a problem with cryptic, sad posts. I love that people form real friendships in this community and can go to each other with their problems and get help and support. I just figured that reading a fic with lots of love in it was going to be more helpful for me in that particular situation, and that particular story turned out to be exactly what I needed.

Oh, yes, I'm all for getting the feelings out. This seems to have been a really emotional week for a lot of my LJ friends, and I'm glad that people are helping each other out. It was just a nice reminder for me of how many different ways we can get help from each other. That story felt like one big hug that I was sharing with Frodo and Gandalf and all the Elves, and Shirebound and all her readers.
