Remixes yay
Sign-ups for Remix Redux 2010 are probably going to start in the next week. Yay! Watch
remixers_lounge if you're interested. I wrote last July about why I love remixes. The assignments are always such a surprise. This will be my fourth year participating, and the first three years I ended up writing in three different fandoms, none of which were the ones I'd signed up for.
I'm sort of tempted to only offer to write Merlin this year, since I'm feeling so monofannish lately, but I will probably offer a few more in order to make the matching easier. I'm glad that they're separating old and new Who this year so I'll be able to offer to write new Who for the first time, and I'll probably also offer HP but not LotR (too much chance of getting assigned to a Silmarillion writer).
I'm looking forward to seeing it go up on the AO3, which seems to make modding a lot easier than it is on journal communities. (I really hope the AO3 changes the format for linking to remixed stories before the challenge goes up though.)
kink_bingo is also running a remix mini-challenge this month with more flexible rules. I'm mostly intimidated by that comm but I'm really tempted by this, since I love remixes and since I just finished ... something unpleasant (yay me) and feel like writing fic tonight. Some folks are offering up their fic for remixing at that post but I'm shy about doing so, partly because I haven't participated in the comm before and also (this is really silly but whatever) because everybody else is linking to their fic on Dreamwidth or the AO3 but the only place where I have all mine listed is on LJ.
Anyway, since it's the informal kind of remix, what I really feel like doing rather than picking a story by someone I don't know is either to ask a friend for permission to do one of theirs or remix one of my own stories. I remember years ago Dana had remixed one of her Merry and Pippin gen stories into a slash story, and then I took a gen fic of hers and remixed it as femslash. This kind of thing isn't allowed in most official remix challenges (where you're supposed to preserve the pairing or lack thereof) but I love the idea, and I also think it could be really interesting to remix a vanilla fic into something kinky. Also as I've been archiving some of my old stuff (and also not-so-old stuff) at the AO3 I've run into some drabbles and ficlets that were neat ideas (including some kinky but non-explicit Inara/Zoe) but just weren't developed very well, so I think it could be fun to go back and fill them in better.
And...I want really badly to run a Merlin remix challenge late in the summer! But I feel like a tease for even talking about that since I can't commit to anything because of rl, so I'll shut up about that now. Or I'll try! Gah! Merlin! Remix! Modding! I wants them!

Not sure what I want to do for KB, but I'm considering remixing some favorite stories by friends (and possibly by me).

I'm also considering being slightly dishonest and not listing all the fandoms where I officially qualify. Like, I'm pretty sure my remixer last year got assigned to me based on the fact that I'd written 7 or so DW drabbles, but she really didn't have much to work with at all there and I don't think she had a very good experience with the remix. :( I think since I qualify in LotR, HP, and Merlin (plus Lost and The Faculty) I'm pretty easily matchable already and I no one should have to try to remix my DW or Heroes drabbles, though the mods would probably not agree.
And I'm not sure about Firefly, where I've written a lot of drabbles but never anything more than 500 words. (Plus half my Firefly drabbles have been remixed already because it's a popular fandom at
I might not do anything for KB because I feel overwhelmed with options, but I sure do like the idea!
