Fic rec request and a meme

I've already recorded three short podfics for the chromatic_podfic challenge (without having signed up yet ha ha)! Editing will come later but shouldn't be too bad (I mean, one case looks like it'll be challenging but in a good way). What I've done so far has been fun but does not fit too well with my NYR to make more podfics of over 30 minutes. Maybe you can help me out by recommending some good fics starring characters of color or from fandoms where the creators are people of color, and that are between 5000 and 10,000 words, any genre.

One character I'm especially interested in is Martha Jones, but strangely enough (or maybe just because I don't read a lot of Whofic except for multifandom challenges I'm in) my favorite Martha fics that I can think of are all remixes or remixed, and I don't want to record one of those stories without its complement, but because of the old remixy POV shift and most of the other characters being white, one of the two stories is not really appropriate for this challenge. (Maybe I can do them later though!)

It's around 20,000 words, but Where My Thought's Escaping is a great Cho-centric gen fic. Mind you, ideally a podficcer for that would speak some Chinese...

I'd also love it if you podficced Merrily on High but that's both too long and has Morgana as the POV character.

I was just looking at Where My Thought's Escaping an hour or two ago! The Chinese might be tough but I have already hooked up with a Mandarin speaker who volunteered to do language beta for the challenge and is going to help me with a Saving Face fic. I just think 20K is too much for me, but I'm kind of hoping someone else will take it on.

I've also definitely given thought to Merrily on High before! It might be a good one for another round of ladiesbigbang. I hadn't thought to use Gwen fics for this challenge but I'll check out In Search of Elysium. Thanks a lot!

If you're looking for more stories with Martha in, this is what I have on delicious. She's not a central character in all of them, but you might like Valentines Day This Year, Streams, or Miss Osterhaagen Regrets.

So on that note, I would like to know some of your fanon about Martha! :D

c) Bones in the hand, dude. Bones in the hand.
d) I would like to see Martha getting married. I guess she's supposed to be married to Mickey now? I'm not too fussed about who her partner is but I would like to see her in a long lacy white dress and not being able to stop grinning.
e) I can ship Martha with just about anybody, but I generally prefer femslash pairings to Martha/Doctor.

Stupid question, but have you had a look through lifeonmartha? In the sidebar, there's a list of shippy and gen recs, as well as a to a few fests.

I love Martha and I love Mickey, but it sort of makes a mess of the whole Tom affair. What made her change her mind? My headcanon is that poor Tom feel through a crack in time :/

Thanks! I have not looked at lifeonmartha, but I will give that a try. I usually don't find comms all that helpful because they just have a ton of fics, but if there are recs then that's good. I just finished reading Miss Osterhagen Regrets and it was really good but I'm still holding out for something a little longer, and maybe with more plot or porn.

Maaartha <3 There are 40 things under my Martha tag here, not sure how long they are though... Lizbee's Huntsman might be a good length (is definitely a good fic)? Sheldrake's A Place Called Home is really really nice fic that's All About Martha versus being a shippy piece (if that's what you're after), but idk if it's long enough. Hope that's some help!

Yay, thanks for the ideas! Huntsman is indeed a good length and looks like a good fic, but I'm hesitant about reading it because I don't know Susan. Actually I went looking for recs at lifeonmartha this morning and found your fic Mr & Mrs Smith (Go To Lyrae). Haven't read it yet but I know I like your writing...would you be okay with me using that?
