A less fraught fandom post!
Fic rec! Last night I read the first 18 parts of a new WIP at the kink meme, The Map of Love. It's, um, Arthur/Merlin in which Arthur is a doll, but it's quite lovely and achy rather than creepy or cracky (not that there's anything wrong with crack or creepiness). It's from Arthur's POV and it has great supporting characters (FREYA!!) and in general is just very interesting and enjoyable. It just got updated with with another 8 parts a little while ago, so I'm looking forward to reading some more of it tonight. ETA: Note that it starts out with cancer and death - if you'd rather not read about that you can skip ahead to the middle of the third comment, and the story will still make about as much sense.
Podfic rec! Earlier this week I finished listening to The Student Prince, fic and podfic by
pandarus, and that was also wonderful! It's a very long fic and I liked some parts more than others, but I was completely charmed by the end, as I pretty much knew I would be. I was sort of laughing at myself and how predictable my reactions were, as in getting bored with the love triangulations and the drinking, then happy with the romance and the porn, and over the moon whenever glbt issues came up. Anyway, FayJay's reading is totally smooth and fun and happy-making, and I highly recommend it.
Podfic progress! The deadline for
chromatic_podfic is coming up in a few days and I'm enjoying wrapping up my projects. I feel bad that I didn't get to all the ones I wanted to do (many thanks to those of you who recced appropriate fics for me!) and especially that I didn't get to the Saving Face fic Yum Cha. Still, it looks like I'll have six podfics adding up to a little over two hours, and with a nice variety of fandoms and genres, so I call it a success. And I'll probably work on Yum Cha and some of the others another time - I just don't want to rush to finish them up right now.
I've also made some progress this week on my
podficbigbang project of recording
lassiterfics' Arthur/Merlin fic A Lever and a Place to Stand, one of my favorites from the first year of
camelotsolstice.
Lack of Writing Progress :( I wrote that Arthur/Merlin fic in the last few days of January and decided to post it just after midnight on February 1st so I'd be able to say that I wrote something in February. (I anonfailed and then posted anon on the wrong thread so the mods had to come and erase it - so scary! After I'd just started to think that posting anon was not that big a deal!
themadlurker has pledged to intervene the next time I propose posting fic after midnight.) I felt really good about that fic (and about my previous two!) and it's been fun watching its hitcount rise at the AO3. It's also been great getting kudos. I love kudos at the AO3!! Sometimes I'll get them on fics that are years old and it's just so nice knowing that people do still come across them and enjoy them.
Anyway, I haven't really written anything this month. In the first few days of the month I made a little bit of progress on the long Gwen fic that I'd decided to pick up for the Fleet Finishathon, and I also started a fun little fic for the animal play challenge at
kinkelot, but then I stopped. :/ I got a great
purimgifts assignment and did come up with a plan for it that I think could be a lot of fun (and three ficlets should not be that hard, right?), but haven't started the actual writing yet. I'm thinking about not signing up for the big Remix this year.

You're right, I can see how that would seem like underachieving. You know, considering all the free time you've had on your hands lately. Just picture my eyebrows raised in loving skepticism.
