fic link: Torn from the Map (Frodo/Aragorn)

FIC.

Earlier tonight I posted my story for the [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_smut "Inside a Song" challenge, which is also my birthday present for [livejournal.com profile] claudia603. The sex part (only R, sorry) is Frodo/Aragorn but there is also a lot of cousin love because, well, I can't seem to stop. I strongly encourage you to listen to the gorgeous Hem song "Half Acre" (written by Dan Messé) which inspired the fic and from which I stole the title and several lines.

The story, called "Torn from the Map", is here. The song is up for reading the lyrics, download or streaming (third song down), and maybe you can even go see the band live, as [livejournal.com profile] gamerchick and I got to do Wednesday night! Long, rambling author's notes right here.

So, back in February of last year, while I was still lurking around this fandom and LJ and had not written any fic, I followed a link on [livejournal.com profile] elanorgardner's journal to [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite's Everything I Know About Fandom. At the time it was number 3 on the list (It's okay to lurk for a while) that made the biggest impression on me, but I also really took number 1 (if there's something you want to read, do it yourself) to heart, hence the crazy!Frodo fic and the Stokely fic. And then there's her number 8: "Anything - songfic, MPREG, stories where characters who have never met on screen fall in love - can be written well. Some things are harder to write well than others." Ever since then "Anything can be written well" has been part of my fandom credo and, though I didn't know what a songfic was at the time, I remembered the phrase and for a long time have wanted to try doing one.

It was also around that time that I first went to see Hem and bought their second album (I'd had their first for a while), and listened to it so much that I forever associate those songs with certain beautiful fics I read that spring.

So you see, it was really very nice to bring all of that together in this fic, and also to write F/A sex for Claudia's birthday.

And then, weeks after I'd started writing the fic, I happened to find out that they were on tour promoting a new album, and so I got to go see them again this week!

Also, there's a Pippin/Diamond song on the new album (I made [livejournal.com profile] danachan listen to it and she totally agrees with me) so, heh, this is probably not the last songfic you'll see from me.

So. I for one am looking forward to the Pippin/Diamond. I also feel like saying that I do love how you throw yourself into your creative process. I have probably never had author's notes half as rambly as this. *grins, hugs*

Lovely story, lovely song. I read it last night, and I'm pretty sure I left you fb. Sometimes I forget, but I know I have it on my recs list for today.

Oh, wow. I just saw this! :-) Thanks for the background on the song and fic. It really DOES make it that much more meaningful! Actually, it's amazing how meaningful music can be to writing...Thank you again -- it's such a lovely, lovely fic! And I'll have to reread that article again...I can see how that could be inspiring!

Oh, yay! I'm so glad you liked it!!! :-) I know there was some in Portugese on there, too, which is fun. And some of it I associate strongly with my original fic writing (since a lot of it takes place in tropical areas). Oh, I am very excited about getting a cd from someone! :-) I LOVE finding new music but I'm often too lazy to search and because of dial-up can't really search online, etc.

And awwww....:-) *hugs*

The Egyptian music I listened to a lot while writing Amara (http://community.livejournal.com/claudiafics/10350.html) *grin*
