Just Married letter

Dear [community profile] justmarriedexchange writer or podfic. Thank you for signing up to make something for me! I'm excited to be participating in my first exchange in a year and a half (and the first time I've signed up for something where I might have to write fic in three years). I am filled with love for fandom right now and hope you are also feeling excited.

General

Here is some information about me! I got into fandom about 15 years ago, initially as a Lord of the Rings slash reader/writer, and then wandered around a few different fandoms for a few years and then got super into Merlin with a bunch of different ships, and then got into podfic in Merlin and other fandoms, and then slowly lost touch over the last few years.

This past year I had my longest hiatus since I first got into fandom, I was really not around at all, and then a couple weeks ago I watched Avengers: Endgame, and since then I've been on here Tweeting and reading fic every day.

Tbh I've never especially identified as a fan of marriage tropes but this exchange is well timed for my renewed obsession as well as my work schedule, and the fact that it allows podfic makes it more accessible to me. I will be delighted to receive a fic or a podfic from you in any of these fandoms. I feel a little guilty that I haven't been very specific with my tags or the rest of my requests but I'm honestly very flexible.

I tend to be a big fan of universes and of characters, more so than of pairings. This isn't to say I don't like shipfic or porn, I totally do, but like for the last couple weeks I've been alternating between Tony/Peter and Tony/Pepper and Tony/Steve plus some Tony/Bucky plus also gen with feelings and it's all glorious. I'm even less discriminating with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place. I love them all so much (plus part of the fun with The Good Place is that the relationship dynamics can all turn up-side-down at any moment and I love that too).

In real life I've been married for just over three years. As a queer person I feel some ambivalence about the institution of marriage and about the wedding industrial complex but I also had a great time at my wedding and among other things got a kick out of deciding which traditions we needed to follow and which we didn't. My gf's and my slogan during the wedding planning was "gay people are free." :P

Some things I will almost always be into:
-hurt/comfort
-BDSM in pretty much any form
-feelings about being queer

Related to h/c, something else I recently discovered I'm really into is characters going to therapy! Maybe for this exchange some marriage counseling!

Here are some other things I tend to like or am open to:
-found family/team feels
-canon-divergent AUs
-dubcon
-noncon
-enthusiastic consent (characters checking up on each other etc!)
-alpha/beta/omega
-characters are a different gender from canon
-characters are trans

Here is some clarification on the DNWs I mentioned in my signups:
-cheating: I'm cool with a character being in a relationship and having sex (or an emotional attachment) to someone else, as long as their partner is also cool with it. I don't want the sneaking around and feeling guilty stuff.
-torture/electricity: please avoid having "good" characters torture "bad" characters in order to get them to give up information or that kind of thing. Erotic torture other than stuff with electricity is okay. Also like, if a character was tortured in canon it's fine if you want to talk about that.
-drunkenness: in general I tend to find reading/listening about drunk people boring, and sometimes in fic there can be unacknowledged consent issues that make me uncomfortable.

I like all kinds of fics and podfics, including those with and without music and sounds effects. Podfic listening isn't part of my regular routine these days and if you do one I'd prefer that it be less than 2 hours so I can listen quickly.

MCU (contains vague Endgame spoilers)

Like I mentioned above, I'm in a Tony Stark kind of way these days. I've recently rewatched all three Iron Man movies and have been reading fic going back ten years, so any period, any place you would like to set a missing scene or alternate path, I will go with you.

I also recently watched Captain Marvel for the first time and rewatched Black Panther (and the first Captain America movie and the first half of Avengers and will probably see some more of them over the next couple months.) I am very interested in Carol and in all Black Panther characters and up for having any of them paired with anyone except Clint, Coulson, or Stephen Strange (sorry). In particular, since T'Challa, Shuri, and Erik are royals (and Nakia, M'Baku, and W'Kabi seem to be members of important families) I am very interested in seeing any of them in an arranged marriage that would be super awkward and then lead to feelings.

I feel for people who were upset or disappointed by Endgame, but I enjoyed it immensely. Feel free to explore everything in that movie, including permanent character deaths, or to ignore it. I would read a million fics set during the five years, or after the five years I mean, think of all the people who were married and then widowed and then I guess married again, and did they get together with someone else in the meantime and then what?? Ahhhh!!!

Speaking of people who have partners, I'm fond of several canon het ships, especially Tony/Pepper, and I can get sensitive about feeling like a female character's getting dissed. So if you're going to for example pair Tony with another dude I'd prefer if either a) that canon relationship was still present and he still loved Pepper or b) she weren't mentioned at all. I tend not to like explanations of how they've grown apart or whatever.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

These other two fandoms are less fraught for me. I love everybody! But as far as ships go I love Amy/Jake and Amy/Rosa best. (I was probably the first person to make B99 podfic and it was Amy/Rosa!) Here are some things I love about Amy, Jake, and Rosa:
-She was voted "most appropriate"! I identify with Amy some because I am also conscientious and sometimes perfectionist. I also appreciate her sometimes fraught relationship with her family and her admiration for Holt. I love the efforts she has made to be more loosey-goosey, partly out of her love for Jake.
-I love Rosa because she is bi and badass, and I love that occasionally she's willing to go against her instincts for the sake of her relationships.
-I love Jake and all his contradictions, like I love his mix of arrogance and realizing that Amy's better than him, and I love his admiration for Holt and his occasional insights into the amount of privilege he's always had as a straight white dude. I am interested in and dubious of his insistence that he doesn't need therapy. :D

I would love to see more about any of these characters' families as in-laws. A friend pointed out that this is also a great fandom for undercover as married.

The Good Place

This show is always the best.

This show started out by telling its main characters that they had soul mates, and later it switched up who their soulmates were. This show is a precious gift to multishippers like me. Maybe you would like to make something with more than one marriage and I would be down with that.

This show also had Janet marry Jason because there's nothing in her programming that specifically forbids it. This is amazing and I would love to see something that goes back to it after the events of later seasons.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my letter and I hope it helps some. You can read more about my tastes on my "dear creator letter tag" but also seriously, do what makes you happy. I am confident in you!!
