Also it seems the last time I posted links to my fanworks from here was in July. I know most of my friends who still use this website don't read MCU or listen to podfics but it is nice to talk about things anyway, so.

I made or contributed to many small podfics that you can find on my AO3 page, but I posted one that was a bit more substantial for the Summer Podfic Swap last August:
-The Other Side of the Coin, Steve/Tony D/s AU, explicit, one hour and nine minutes.

And I wrote a fic, posted in January:
-Stardust, Tony-centric Potts-Stark family gen, 6000 words.

ETA: Wait and I also wrote another fic in October:
-live through this (and maybe prosper mix), Natasha-centric Endgame AU, rated teen, 1200 words.
/ETA

Still lots of Tony feels around here, can't say I've really moved on! I have two other Tony fics I've been trying to finish for ages, one currently at about 5K and the other at 8K. And another 3K that I mean to be Pepper/Natasha but I keep accidentally writing about Tony instead.

Another fannish New Year's Resolution I made but didn't post about here was that I'd write at least 100 words of fic at least once a week. I stuck to that until last week, and then I came back and did it again (just barely) last night. But I don't feel close to finishing anything, or confident that people will want to read them. For example, that 8K fic is for a request that a fannish aquaintance made at an exchange two years ago; that person continues to participate in exchanges but has stopped requesting these characters.

I was also doing okay at plugging away slowly at a large podfic project but have also fallen behind on that the last couple weeks, and again it's not like a lot of people are clamoring to hear it.

And as for myself I haven't much been consuming fanworks in recent months. I've left off my habit of reading fic before bed – for a while was reading published ebooks but the last couple weeks I've been trying to turn off all electronic devices a good hour before my bedtime. So I just read a paper book and it often sends me to sleep real quick. I haven't been finishing a lot of books either! (But I did finish one today! Maybe I will also make a books post this week!)

I'm doing fine though.

I haven't looked at the AO3 since seeing Spider-Man yesterday. To be honest I'm a bit afraid to, because if I know fandom there won't be a lot of engagement with how recent events have affected Ned and MJ, and that will make me sad. But also maybe I'll feel inspired to make something, and that can be a great feeling.

I have finished three books since my last books post two weeks ago, two of them just today. One was for work so I won't tell you about it. The other two were a Black Panther comic book and the novel Transcendent Kingdom.

I wrote another ficlet, this time in the form of five drabbles:
-See what's in front of you, MCU/Iron Man, Pepper/Tony/Rhodey, 500 words, general audiences (but kind of sad).

I also did another podfic:
-night shift, MCU/Captain America, Sam/Steve, 9 minutes, general audiences, fluffy AU written by my old friend [personal profile] glim.

I've been doing the old morning pages since July 1st and that's been fun. Actually writing in a notebook with a pen and without a goal. Since I haven't been working lately and I've had that as the first thing I do after brewing the coffee and feeding the cats, I've been feeling happier waking up than I had in months or possibly years.

I posted a wee fic last week, my first once since Voiceteam Mystery Box around New Year's:
-What my friends call me, MCU/Spider-Man, warm and fuzzy MJ & Peter & Ned with MJ/Peter and gender stuff, 696 words, general audiences.

I am writing )

And I'm still making podfic! Yesterday I made this to celebrate Steve Rogers's birthday:
-steady to the shore, MCU/Captain America, Bucky/Steve/Sam, 25 minutes, explicit

I also made the following podfics for Voiceteam in May (and trailing into June), all less than twenty minutes:
-feel something when I see you, MCU/Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky/Sam, explicit
-Nonsense, MCU/Captain America, Bucky/Sam with Bucky/bad guys noncon flashbacks, explicit
-Who Taught You How to Fall, Saving Face, Wil/Vivian, explicit (an old fic of mine!)
-She, Brokeback Mountain, Alma Jr./OFC, mature (an old poem of mine!)
-The Roommate (A Gentlemen's Arrangement Remix), Merlin, Merlin/Elyan, mature, featuring many Voiceteam participants
-Wherever You'll Be Someone, MCU/Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky/Sam, general audiences
-Rogue Two: A Star Wars Story, Rogue One, Jyn-centric, general audiences
-a glitch on the television screen, MCU/WandaVision, Wanda/Vision, teen, edited by my teammate
-Another Country, MCU/Avengers, Steve/Tony, teen, with cover art by a teammate
-yes your wings are beautiful. yes they shimmer. god., MCU/Iron Man, Tony/Rhodey, general audiences
-Capes, Star Wars sequels, Finn/Poe, teen, with three other Voiceteam participants

Voiceteam thoughts )

I also participated in a few other projects organized by other Voiceteam folks:
-for goodness' bake!, The Good Place ensemble, general audiences
-Furry Artists vs. Doctors, a dramatic reading of the (I guess classic?) Furry Artists vs. Doctors Tumblr post
-Until we rise with open eyes, Patrick O'Brian - Aubrey-Maturin Series, Aubrey and Maturin, general audiences
-A Seed of Song: Fives Hymns The Muses Sing of Hades and Persephone, Greek mythology/Vienna Teng's Aims, Hades/Persephone, teen

Oh hey I used all my journal's genre tags on this post: boyslash, femslash, gen, het, multi, other, and poetry!

I participated in [community profile] voiceteam Mystery Box, which started on Dec. 26thish and ended a couple hours ago. I rejoined Team Red Out Loud, and we won! This was pretty awesome, as in May, with lots of collaboration both on multivoice podfics and on all kinds of other things. As in May, I got stressed out at times but also loved being on a team with other people who were focused on winning. These last two weeks I realized I was especially stressed out by challenges that involved making things other than podfic, so, idk, it was good that other people were up for it. ngl I really liked winning, even though I didn't contribute to the tiebreaker challenge we did the last few days.

Here are the podfics I made for the challenge, many of them in collaboration with teammates. They are all rated General Audiences or Teen and are less than 20 minutes. As in May/June, I'm not up for explaining and coding everybody else's names but you can see them on the AO3.
-she's waiting for me (just across the bar), MCU: Maria Hill/Natasha Romanov
-The Fear of Not Trying, MCU: Peter & Tony, written by a teammate for this challenge, with cover art by a teammate
-Tolls Paid, Elementary: Joan/Sherlock
-your quiet afternoon crush , MCU: Peter/MJ, with voices by several teammates and cover art by a rival
-Is that a cat in your pocket?, MCU: Tony & Rhodey, with another voice and cover art by teammates
-the winding path, MCU: Sam/Steve
-The Prompt Machine: IronFalcon podfics b, MCU: Tony/Sam, a set of three podficlets with covers by a teammate and two rivals, and with audio editing on one of them by a rival!

Also for Voiceteam, I wrote a Carol Danvers/Maria Rambeau ficlet, Follow Your Star, that a teammate recorded.

I also contributed voice parts to these other short podfics that my teammates organized!
-'My Drunk Kitchen' is Not a DIY Show, Texts from Last Night: original female characters
-Conversations with Carpenter, Alice (Syfy): Carpenter & various
-lightheaded, The Untamed: Yanli/Wen Qing (This one's super great!)
-An Invitation, Wonder Woman 1984: Diana/Barbara
-Where in the World is "Where in the World"?, Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego/Sesame Street: Elmo-centric
-The Snowstorm Variations, Leverage: Eliot/Parker/Hardison

Meanwhile, the Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange was exchanged and revealed! I decided not to participate in the exchange this year but I did make an extra treat:
-Hair is Everything , MCU: Tony & Natasha, 31 minutes.

And I tried to put a 2020 podfic year in review post in here but it is too much! I will try again soon. <3
sophinisba: Wee Gwen admires wee Merlin's magic! (gwen merlin by el_jamon)
I mentioned in a post from two weeks ago that I hadn't made podfic in a few months. However, I did have a podfic that I'd made in May go public last week, hooray!

Back at the end of the Voiceteam challenge in May my team started a game of Podfic Broken Telephone, which is where one person records a podfic and passes it on to one other person, who records a podfic inspired by the first one, then passes it on to a third person and so on. My teammate [archiveofourown.org profile] blackglass recorded a soft dad feelings Mandalorian podfic and then I recorded a soft dad feelings Tony Stark podfic and then there were some different family feelings then it veered around to courting and marriage, passing through six different fandoms! There were some delays along the way but we did wrap it up and then make everything public last week and then I forward-dated mine in hopes people would see it, though really it doesn't make much difference because who listens to podfic. But anyway here is the collection:
-WhispeRED Out Loud: A Podfic Broken Telephone Challenge
-and my contribution Improvement, written by [archiveofourown.org profile] laireshi, Tony & Morgan, 9 minutes

That was a nice bit of Voiceteam nostalgia, though I hadn't really seen that it was happening because I hadn't been on Discord.

Then a couple hours ago the Voieceteam mods announced that they would run a shorter challenge around the end of the year, and you could sign up as a group or sign up individually and have the mods assign you. Since then thirteen people have signed up: one mod, five people signing up as individuals, and SEVEN MEMBERS OF TEAM RED OUT LOUD. I love us, yay!

Anyway, you should consider signing up, as [community profile] voiceteam is very newbie friendly and a nice way of meeting new people and trying new things.

Meanwhile I have asked for and been granted permission to record a few things in the last two weeks. Tonight I started recording one of them and to be honest it's been rough going. Just hard to get sentences out! And some noises in my house and my neighborhood. But still fun to be giving it a try again, and I'm really looking forward to Voiceteam Mystery Box.
sophinisba: Merlin smiling with forest background (ep. 1.04) (merlin smiling by miakun)
This past month I kept up some of my momentum from [community profile] voiceteam and posted these seven podfics:

-The body heroic., MCU, Peter/Tony, 56 minutes, explicit.

-So Strong As Gentleness , Star Wars sequels, Finn/Rey, 7 minutes, mature.

-If The Bones Are Good (The Rest Don't Matter), MCU, Bucky/Shuri, 11, minutes, explicit.

-Five Times Bruce and Val Thought Maybe They Were Meant to Be , MCU, Bruce/Valkyrie, 5 minutes, teen. (Multivoice podfic featuring [archiveofourown.org profile] blackglass as Valkyrie.)

-Breaking Point, MCU, Peter/Tony, 2 hours 15 minutes, explicit.

-This I Know, Sugar , MCU, Sam/Steve, 26 minutes, teen. (Multivoice podfic featuring [archiveofourown.org profile] olive2read as Sam and [archiveofourown.org profile] Chantress as Natasha.)

-People Who Have Managed to Stay Alive, MCU, Sam/Steve, 2 hours 3 minutes, general audiences.

I posted the last two as part of SamSteve Vacation Week, a little no-commitment AU fest that's running this week leading up to Steve's birthday on the 4th of July. So if you're a fan of that ship, check out the collection and consider contributing to it!

I want to point out that the second Peter/Tony and the second Sam/Steve are each over two hours, putting them among the longest podfics I've ever made! I am really proud of both of them too, the Peter/Tony because I think my reading is pretty awesome, and the Sam/Steve because I put in a lot of extra effort with editing music and such. They are also both quite romantic! I've loved both fics since I read them last summer and am excited to have the podfics out in the world. \o/

With all that done, I'm thinking of taking a break from podfic for most of July and trying to write some fics, or maybe even read some books or something, idk. OTOH it might be fun to record something else for the Sam/Steve fest, or I might do some more F/M podfic because I like to keep something of a numerical balance between my F/F, F/M, M/M, and gen fanworks (even though my podfics skew overwhelmingly towards the dudes if we count by length). I will be working on a long femslash project for [community profile] pod_together, but that's still being written and I probably won't start recording until toward the end of this month.

One more thing: yesterday [archiveofourown.org profile] Rhea314 posted Discredit & Sequel, a massively multivoice 30-minute Good Omens podfic for which I recorded a line or two at last October's [community profile] podfication. Multivoice podfics are fun to listen to and you should give this a try!
sophinisba: Hunith and Merlin at a campfire (hunith merlin by slightlytookish)
While the world has continued to be awful, [community profile] voiceteam has continued to be great. The competition wrapped up yesterday (my team won omg!) and will be back next year.

In the third week of May we made a lot of podfics for very small fandoms, and in the fourth week we made some multivoice stuff but mostly made plans! So I hope to have some bigger things in bigger fandoms to post soon. Also I will get to keep hanging out with other Voiceteam folks.

Podfics I Have Made since May 17th
-Just to Keep It, a six-minute podfic of a story I wrote for the book and movie The Hours back at Yuletide 2008. Editing this made me cry.

-Drabble Series, two drabbles for the series Noah's Arc, 2 minutes.

-The Dance of the Cranes, a six-minute podfic of an old Northern Exposure fic by our own [personal profile] trascendenza. Recorded outside!

-The Circle Game, an 11-minute podfic of another old Yuletide fic, for the 2008 movie Saved!

-Stumbling Towards Better, a 17-minute multivoice podfic for the Netflix series Russian Doll, narrated by me and featuring appearances by most of Team Red.

Don't Need No Credit Card To Ride This Train, a 7-minute multivoice Harry Potter podfic in which I don't do any speaking but which took me hours to edit so I'm claiming it as mine.

Multivoice Podfics in Which I Have Small Parts
-Special Providence, a five-minute podfic for the book Tam Lin.

-Wine and Cheese, a 20-minute Red vs. Blue podfic.

-The Little Red Yoshi, a 12-minute podfic for the video game Yoshi's Story, in which I play Birdo. (I love this one, gosh.)

-An Opening for a Sidekick, a nine-minute Disney princesses podfic.

-Whole New Worlds, another nine-minute Disney princesses podfic. Actually I have a bigger part in this one, I'm the narrator, but blackglass organized it and did the editing.

-Blanket Gift Policy, a delightful four-minute MCU Christmas podfic.

-A Study in the Soothing of Magical Hockey Babies, Conducted by Jacob Trouba, a ten-minute Hockey RPF podfic.

Another big podfic event coming up is the [community profile] pod_together challenge, where writers and podficcers collaborate to make something new! Signups are open at the comm now through Saturday, June 6th.
sophinisba: Gwen looking sexy from Merlin season 2 promo pics (Default)
I've been having such a great time participating in [community profile] voiceteam, which started on May 1st (well April 30th really). This is a little bit similar to [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon, the Merlin writing challenge I used to do, in that players are sorted into a bunch of different teams that compete for points each week. I guess more people are familiar with these kinds of challenge as "land comms". Then I was going to have a sentence about the ways voiceteam is different from pthon but ... there are too many differences.

Anyway, this is a podfic-centered comm and every week has a theme but there are always lots of different ways of participating, so it's possible to get the maximum number of points for the week just by, say, commenting on others' podfics, or doing other kinds of creative work. There are also a lot of rewards for collaboration so it's been a great chance to interact with people. We are in Discord all the time. There are not a lot of rewards for making longer works and they take a lot more time, so most of us haven't been doing that. OTOH some people, including some members of my team, have been super ambitious and organized incredible projects even when they've already maxed out on points for the week.

Oh I should say another reason I'm enjoying it is that my team, the Red team, has been winning. I don't think my team ever won at summerpornathon! Team Gluttony used to win but then once I got on it we didn't. :D

As happens every time I make podfic, I marvel at how much easier and less stressful that is when authors have posted blanket permission to podfic on their AO3 profiles. There are a lot of tight deadlines in this challenge and we're often looking for very specific things. We find lots of things that would make great podfics but we don't know if we'll have time to hear back from the author and get the thing done. Thank you so much, friends and strangers who have posted BP!!!

Some of the stuff I've made is only posted at the Voiceteam Discord server (idk if that's what you call it lol) but here are the things that have been posted to the AO3 so far! I'm ... just going to refer to everyone as my teammates because this is already a lot of coding and I can't handle cross-platform usernames this morning. But you can see their names at the AO3!

Podfics I Have Made in the Last Two-and-a-Half Weeks
- Hearth and Home, a 9-minute Leverage podfic of a story written by my old Team Gluttony teammate lady_ragnell. Three of us from Team Red podficced the same story in week one! That's called repodding or in this case simulpodding and not something I'm usually into but it was for points this time so yay!

- Friendship Bracelet, a 5-minute Babysitters Club podfic. Two of us recorded this!

- a single heartbeat between your two, an 18-minute Rogue One, Jyn/Cassian podfic for our team's week-one anthology around the theme of secrets.

- so shake apart, a 13 minute explicit MCU (Steve/Bucky/Natasha) multivoice podfic also featuring two of my teammates.

- A Very Large Location of Something, an 8-minute gen podfic centered on Maria from The Sound of Music (in week 2 you could get more points for podfic about musicals).

- Valencia Shouldn't Get in a Car with Rebecca!, a 14-minute Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Valencia/Heather podfic.

- Pretty in Mink, a five-minute explicit Princess and the Frog podfic of a story by our own [archiveofourown.org profile] Rubynye.

- gettin' bi (reprise), a five-minute Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Heather/Rebecca multivoice podfic in which I play Heather. My teammates have more lines than I do in this but I'm calling it mine because I organized and edited it. Editing multivoice podfics is harder than you might think, considering how often people do it! They are super fun to listen to though.

- If It's Sewing, She Sews, a 22-minute gen podfic centered on Maria from West Side Story. (This might be my fave of the solo podfics I've made so far this month.)

- Life Doesn't Discriminate, a 21-minute Star Wars gen podfic about Leia after the end of The Last Jedi.

- Reaping the Whirlwind, a seven-minute Joel/Marilyn Northern Exposure podfic and my first experience recording and editing on my phone.

- under your boot-soles, a seven-minute gen podfic about young Adelaide from the movie Us.

Multivoice Podfics in Which I Have Small Parts
- 5 Times Parker Slept in Matt's Bed, +1 Time Matt Slept in Hers, a 23-minute Leverage/Daredevil crossover multivoice podfic. I play Foggy!

- let us sport us while we may, a 15-minute multivoice podfic of the first chapter of a Brooklyn Nine-Nine high school AU. I play Charles!

Also We Made Filks OMG
- My teammates wrote and performed a filk about podficcing based on a song from the musical Bonnie and Clyde, and I did the editing! How 'Bout a Pod?

- My teammate took an old Tumblr post that talks about reading fic with lyrics inspired by "Let It Be" and made it into an awesome filk with lots of people singing: AO3.

- The same teammate organized and edited a Harry Potter filk based on the song "Cell Block Tango" from Chicago, with nine different voices: Spell Block Tango.

- AND she organized and edited a Mandalorian filk based on the song "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast with an incredible 23 different voices, many of them from different voiceteam teams: The Mando and the Kid.

- I sang a filk about shipping written by one of my teammates, based on the song "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid: Kiss the Girl.

FRIENDS, the Us podfic I posted last night is my 500th work on the AO3!!!!! Also last month was my 10-year anniversary of starting to post podfic, and my 15-year anniversary of starting to write fic and interact with people on LJ. I've known some of you for 15 years and I'm so grateful for you!!
sophinisba: Gwen's lips and Morgana's lips with gauzy fabric (gwen morgana lips by ravenclawbest)
I posted back in January about a fic and four podfics I had made for year-end fests. Here is a post about another fic and four more podfics! All of them are Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom.

In fact I had already written this second fic when I made that other post, but it didn't go up until late February. It is called For Now (A Remix Before the War) and it was part of the Captain America/Iron Man Relay Remix, which seemed like an interesting but probably unwise idea even when I signed up for it and ended up being, well, difficult, as I was assigned to remix a fic based on comic books I'm not familiar with, and for some other reasons. Also for some reason the mods chose to use staggered posting with all the different remix chains going up in random order and not linked to each other and I haven't read most of the other ones and feel bad for being a bad community member. Anyway, it's a little Steve/Tony hurt/comfort (with hurt Steve and sad Tony), my first time writing Tony POV, and there are things about it that I like but I probably will not sign up for a similar challenge again.

Then in early March [community profile] purimgifts happened and I was pleased to be assigned to [personal profile] flipflop_diva, who'd requested fic or podfic about ladies, but then frustrated at how hard it was to find fics to podfic that are actually about ladies. Like, if you click on the Natasha Romanov tag at the AO3 most of the works you get are actually m/m (mainly Steve/Bucky and Steve/Tony). But anyway I eventually founds some fun ones and enjoyed making these three podfics:
-Like A Creepy, Hairless Cat, written by [archiveofourown.org profile] VYCanisMajoris, Natasha/Tony, 7 minutes
-hope you don't mind, written by isawet, Natasha/Steve, 5 minutes
-An Uncommon Doctor , written by [archiveofourown.org profile] perpetfic, Natasha/Maria Hill, 4 minutes

More recently our friend [twitter.com profile] lattice_frames had to cancel her birthday plans because of quarantine, so [twitter.com profile] bessyboo organized an impromptu fanworks fest for her, and I made the tiniest piece of it: magic, a two-minute podfic of a Carol Danvers/Maria Rambeau double drabble that [archiveofourown.org profile] saiditallbefore had written for me last year.

I don't have anything in progress now but at some point I will make things again. :)
sophinisba: Lancelot with text: Chicks dig scars (lancelot scars by miakun)
A while back I mentioned that I'd been reading a lot of Irondad hurt/comfort fic and a friend asked if that was a fandom or a pairing or what, and also a friend on Twitter who is more familiar with MCU fandom thought it was Tony/Peter but it's not that (that ship is called Starker), and I'm still pretty into it but also fascinated and occasionally annoyed that it's such a big thing, so here is a post about that.

And then I'm also a fan of Tony/Peter aka Starker and sometimes I feel a little funny about that. Like there doesn't seem to be a lot of overlap among those fan groups and I think hmm is it pervy for me to ship them in a sexy way when I also ship them as mentor&mentee? But to be honest a lot of Starker fic is pretty pervy, with one or both characters worrying a lot about the age difference and how inappropriate it is for them to be even thinking about each other that way, and that is part of what's appealing about the ship, so I guess it's okay. *warm memories of LOTR Interspecies slash fandom*

Thank you for listening, I hope my old friends continue to find my MCU obsession amusing and not too tiresome!
sophinisba: Wee Gwen admires wee Merlin's magic! (gwen merlin by el_jamon)
Okay, first of all, [personal profile] claudia603, I need you to watch the first three and a half minutes of the 2014 movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Here it is, I'll wait:

Isn't that delightful? Okay now you are set to understand most (though not all) fanworks for this ship, including the three I talk about in this post. Like there are a lot of movies and other stuff does happen to these guys but a lot of it is sad and a lot of Sam/Steve fans want them to be happy so there we are.

Yeah so I participated in [community profile] samstevesmallgifts, a lovely low-key fanworks exchange with just one pairing but a lot of my favorite MCU people.
-[personal profile] potofsoup wrote me Day after Thanksgiving, which is very much my jam, a good quiet fic about two people in a relationship talking about big personal stuff like being gay in the military at different times in history. There is also a bonus drawing of Sam/Steve smooching! :D
-I made the only podfic in the exchange (thanks, mods, for including podfic this year!), and then the bears came, a very cute fic about camping, written by my recipient [profile] oh_no_oh_dear. It is 13 minutes and rated G.
-And then I also wrote them a fic, just like an oven (I need some lovin'), a little over 2000 words, rated mature. This is my first m/m fic in four and a half years!!

This was also my fourth year participating in #itpe, the Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange! I got assigned to [twitter.com profile] Olive2Read, a new podficcer whom I'd started following a few weeks before, and at first I was a little worried because they'd requested Killing Eve and I'd signed up to offer that while watching the first season, NOT REALIZING THERE WAS A WHOLE SECOND SEASON that had inspired a lot of femslash fanworks but which I didn't have access to. Also [twitter.com profile] Olive2Read but didn't want graphic violence and in that fandom there is a lot of graphic violence because of the source. Anyway it all worked out because they'd also requested Schitt's Creek podfic, specifically anything other than the m/m pairing that dominates that fandom. And once I started reading I found some delightful such fics and had a blast recording them. In general I have a blast whenever I get to record in a sitcom fandom because the character voices are so fun, and I also always get a kick out of making femslash podfic at Christmas so yeah.

The three podfics I made were
-bring the cowgirl out and cock them guns, written by [archiveofourown.org profile] olive2read, Stevie/Twyla, 13 minutes, explicit
-in the hack, written by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithwings, Alexis/Twyla, 19 minutes, general audiences
-warmest regards., written by [archiveofourown.org profile] helvetica_upstart, Stevie/David, 19 minutes, explicit.

Meanwhile [twitter.com profile] lattice_frames got assigned to me and made me two podfics for maybe my favorite MCU femslash pairing, Carol/Maria from Captain Marvel. (Claudia you'd be into this ship too.) They are "Enough" written by fabrega and "you are my sweetest downfall (i loved you first)" written by QueenWithABeeThrone. I got them in a DM and got to listen to them while walking around the elevators in my parents building on Christmas evening because it was too cold to go outside. Now you can download them along with I think a couple hundred other new podfics at the #ITPE: Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange 2019 (Main Gifts) post over on [community profile] amplificathon!

Also the irrepressible [profile] reenajenkins made me a podfic of probably my favorite StarWars ship, Jyn/Cassian from Rogue One, as an extra treat. It is "Drive Me Crazy" written by tielan and you can find it along with many many other new podfics (25 of them, I believe, also made by [profile] reenajenkins!) at the #ITPE: Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange 2019 (Treats) post.

So all in all this was a nice chill way to end what was an exciting fannish 2019 for me and start off 2020 on a good foot as well. Much love to the mods and to all the other folks who participated. Fandom is great, you know?
sophinisba: Wee Gwen admires wee Merlin's magic! (gwen merlin by el_jamon)
Oh my gosh [community profile] purimgifts 2020! I participated in this challenge way back in the first round in 2008! And again in 2009 and 2011! Then I had some years of writing less and then not writing at all, and then I came back and now this is also a podfic challenge! Hooray!

Thank you so much for signing up to write or podfic one of my fandoms! I am an easygoing fan and I will like what you make! I like gen and most kinds of ships, though for this challenge I would just as soon skip most m/m pairings. I like happy stories and sad stories, h/c, kink, and stories about identity, community, and belief. I enjoy canon and AUs, and if you would like to say "But what if they were Jewish?" about any of these characters I'd go with you there. For the most part I do not like torture in interrogation scenes or cheating in relationships.

fandoms: MCU, Spider-Verse, Rogue One, Little Women, Schitt's Creek, The Good Place )

Want to do some crossovers? Crossovers are also great. You can see some of the other fandoms I'm familiar with here in my journal tags or my AO3 account.

Have fun! I look forward to seeing/hearing what you do!

(Is it weird that I still don't have any MCU icons? Idk I've been using the soft sexy Gwen one so long it just feels right.)

I started off 2018 feeling pretty good about fandom, did the Snowflake Challenge and everything. I set these goals:
  • make ten Dreamwidth or Tumblr posts, of which
    • five are not fanworks posts, and
    • five are not in January or December
  • make ten fanworks, of which
    • one is a fic, and
    • one is a podfic of more than an hour

Strangely enough, I filled almost all of these goals in both 2018 and 2019, even though I had a stretch of seven months (October 2018 to May 2019) without a Dreamwidth or Tumblr post, and a stretch of fifteen months (March 2018 to June 2019) without a new fanwork. The one piece I didn't manage was to write any fics in 2018 – I also hadn't written any in 2017 - so it was really exciting to come back and write five fics in the second half of 2019, as well as coming back to podficcing and to fannish involvement/feelings in general. I honestly wasn't sure I'd come back at all, let alone in such an active way.

So, all that said, my Official Fannish Goals for 2020 are the same modest ones I set for 2018: the 10 posts and 10 fanworks with some sub-goals.

Once I add those three #itpe podfics, my AO3 category stats will look like this:
  • M/M (127)
  • F/F (126)
  • Gen (122)
  • F/M (120)
  • Multi (47)
I'm pleased with how close the first four numbers are and would like to keep that spread from going over ten, but I won't be upset if it does.

My secret ambition for 2020 is to organize a podfic of [personal profile] thingswithwings's Steve Rogers epic Known Associates, with eight seven readers for each of the eight seven main chapters. I think that would be awesome.

Happy New Year, fannish friends! I'm really happy and grateful to have you in my life again!

For the first time since May, I didn't post any new fanworks in October! It's also unlikely I'll post any in November!

I've been doing a little bit of podficcing –– not much because life has been busy and my fannish enthusiasm has been flagging a bit –– but that's for #itpe so they won't go up until Dec. 25. The mods posted the #ITPE 2019 Treats List last night and there are lots of possibilities so if I make any other podfics the rest of this year they'll also probably go toward that fest.

Though, there's a longer one I started a few months ago that I figured I would post as an extra treat for someone in pod_exchange, but I missed that deadline and also the deadline for [community profile] podficbigbang. And now weirdly enough I can't find any #itpe requests that it fills very well even though it is lovely. So I might just end up posting it randomly and it will slump into oblivion like most podfics. ;)

I did get a nice assignment for [community profile] samstevesmallgifts but I haven't started working on that yet. Maybe today!

ETA: Whoops, I forgot I did contribute one line to this great MCU/Into the Spider-Verse gen podfic, written by [archiveofourown.org profile] mauvera, that [twitter.com profile] FumblesMcStupd organized at Podfication: [podfic of] Peter ^2.

Summary:

What's the general protocol for what to do when a portal opens up in your room and a random homeless guy that doesn't look quite real and is dressed like your secret superhero self falls on top of you?

Asking for a friend.

Yay, fanworks after all!

Okay okay okay, I know what you're thinking: but sophinisba, did you like that other Avengers movie, the one that came out a year and a half ago?

I didn't, especially! Here is a post about that, with spoilers for both Infinity War and Endgame.

I only posted one podfic in September. It's been unpopular even for a podfic but I think it's great. :D

Title: i want to (be someone else or i'll explode) (text, download, and streaming links at the AO3)
Author: [archiveofourown.org profile] notcaycepollard
Fandom: MCU (Spider-Man, Black Panther)
Rating: Explicit (!)
Ship(s): Peter Parker/Michelle Jones/Shuri
Length: 16.7 MB, 25 minutes
Content Notes: Consensual sex and some light D/s and feminization, with Peter and MJ probably 16 or 17, Shuri a few years older.
Author's summary: “This is kind of weird,” Peter says, letting Shuri tuck his hair under the wig. “Isn’t this kind of weird?”

“What’s weird?” Michelle asks, and Peter’s not really sure how to articulate any of this—the makeup, the hair, where all of it is going or not going—so he just shrugs, lets it happen. MJ and Shuri confer over arranging the wig, whether he’s got enough makeup on, and then MJ’s picking up a glossy red lipstick, raising her eyebrows at Shuri like she’s asking her opinion.

“Yes,” Shuri says. “Absolutely.”

This is the point at which Peter should say something, if he was gonna say something, but he just opens his mouth, lets MJ grab him by the jaw and angle his chin up so she can brush the sticky gloss over his mouth. Peter licks his lips, presses them together. Looks up at the both of them.

I had another lovely experience with a fanworks exchange!

I received five different stories, four different MCU pairings and one for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse:

*wipes brow* Wow, I am out of practice making Dreamwidth posts and coding is hard work. Or maybe the air conditioning isn't working in this part of the house.

Okay and I wrote four stories omg! I'm now MCU-remixable. This was also one Spider-Verse and the rest MCU:

Yay writing! This was super fun and makes me want to sign up for something else, but Marvel fandom is mysterious to me and I missed signups for a holiday exchange that coulda been cool (they did not post in [community profile] fandomcalendar?), and I haven't seen any others that are a good fit for me.

But I am signed up for #itpe again! Signups closed last night and assignments should go out soon, hurrah!

Dear Podficcer,

Whee, I'm back in fandom and back in Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange after a hiatus! How are you doing? Is this your first #itpe? I'm going to [community profile] podfication next month, are you also going and will you have to pretend not to know who I am? Or omg maybe we've known each other for years! Mystery exchanges, so great!

Thank you for signing up with one or more of my fandoms and thanks in advance for making something for me! I like all kinds of podfics and I am sure to like what you make!

Nah, I had a seven-week streak of posting here once a week but fell behind once my job started to get busy. Sorry!

Anyway, here's a fannish thing, I signed up for the Marvel Femslash Drabble Exchange, a new [community profile] marvelfemslashevents event! Signups are open until midnight Eastern time tomorrow (Saturday), and then they send out assignments right away and you get two weeks to write 100 words!

I'm looking forward to it. Sometimes I feel bad because I don't know anything about comics and I haven't watched the TV shows but I still was able to offer 44 different ships. Maybe I will make some extra things, maybe not, but I believe I can do one drabble and then I will have written more than one fic in 2019. Whoo!
