Dear Purimgifts creator
Oh my gosh
purimgifts 2020! I participated in this challenge way back in the first round in 2008! And again in 2009 and 2011! Then I had some years of writing less and then not writing at all, and then I came back and now this is also a podfic challenge! Hooray!
Thank you so much for signing up to write or podfic one of my fandoms! I am an easygoing fan and I will like what you make! I like gen and most kinds of ships, though for this challenge I would just as soon skip most m/m pairings. I like happy stories and sad stories, h/c, kink, and stories about identity, community, and belief. I enjoy canon and AUs, and if you would like to say "But what if they were Jewish?" about any of these characters I'd go with you there. For the most part I do not like torture in interrogation scenes or cheating in relationships.
Marvel Cinematic Universe – I also listed Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and the Iron Man and Spider-Man movies. I love them! This is my main fandom these days and I am such a fan. Some of my favorite female characters are relevant to this fest are MJ, Shuri, Pepper, Natasha, Nakia, Nebula, Carol, and both Marias. I know there are some versions where Wanda and/or Bucky are Jewish and I would be interested in works delving into that, though they're not my fave characters on their own and I'm not really into Bucky/Steve or Wanda/Vision. (I am kind of into Bucky/Sam and Wanda/Natasha though.)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - Gosh I love May and Liv (and May/Liv) and Gwen and Rio. Wow, what a great movie. Would love to know more about their lives and relationships, their ideas and experiences with science, religion, care-taking, grief, aging, etc.!
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Okay, I am not even that much of a Star Wars person not having watched them when I was a kid. I am also not Jewish or very knowledgeable about Judaism but listen, it seems to me that a person could do a lot with Jewish themes and these characters, and I'd be up for any kind of AU or also just, straight up any kind of story about Jyn. I ship her with Cassian and with Cassian/Bodhi and am also very open to crossover and connections with the originals and sequels –– Jyn/Leia, Rey learning the story of Rogue One, or what have you.
Little Women - I requested the 2019 movie though if you feel more inspired by the book that's cool too - I read it as a kid and they're not too different anyway. But I must say that this movie made me ship Jo/Laurie like I have never in my long life. I listened to a podcast that talked about Chalamet's Laurie as wanting to be one of the March sisters, wanting to be part of this family of women and enjoy domesticity and warmth. Of course we all know Jo is frustrated by the limitations placed on women and here we see Laurie limited by expectations of men and I would love so much to read or listen to a work that loves them as 19th century queers, maybe Jo is gay or ace and maybe Laurie kinda wants to be a girl idek. Would be very happy with some little scene or also with some AU like, what if neither of them ever get married? Or what if they do but then they all live together in some kind of poly educational commune as glimpsed at the end of the movie? I'd also be up for some happy Laurie/Amy and a marriage that accommodates their needs? Or really anything with Jo, I just, I want so much for them to be happy ahhhhhhhhhhh.
Schitt's Creek - Oh my gosh, Jewish family in a small town, so many things you could explore! To be very honest my number one wish would be a work about Moira and Stevie's relationship, I found their interactions around Stevie's part in Cabaret to be so beautiful, but I'm also super into Alexis and David and pretty much everybody. I am not keeping up with season 6 as it's airing so if you could please avoid spoilers there.
The Good Place - Are there any Jewish characters on this show? If not that seems weird. But anyway you can't really go wrong here, I love all of them so much. I will be keeping up with season 4 this spring so feel free to incorporate recent canon but older stuff is great too.
Want to do some crossovers? Crossovers are also great. You can see some of the other fandoms I'm familiar with here in my journal tags or my AO3 account.
Have fun! I look forward to seeing/hearing what you do!
