Is it okay to take knitting needles on a plane flying within the US these days?

ETA: The official answer is yes, but I think I might put them in my checked bag just to avoid any kind of hassle.

Depends which country and which airline. Its best to check airline websites.
From personal experience circular needles get less notice than straights but still better to check.

By the way, it's supposed to be in the upper 70's this weekend! (alas, it may not be very sunny though -- I think there's supposed to be on and off rain).

According to the PDF file the TSA issued, you can carry on knitting needles... http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/prohibited-and-permitted-items.pdf

Have fun!

I was reading tips from last year when the airlines varied, and one knitter said she carried her least-favorite needles and kept them separate from the knitting in case they were taken from her.
