lotrips fic rec

Since Wednesday night I've been caught up in reading a fantastic fic by semaphore27 called This Is the Way the World Ends. It's Lotrips crossed over with Stephen King's The Stand -- that one where a plague kills off most of the world's population and we follow the adventures of a few survivors, who in this version are actors from LotR. It works really well even if you haven't read the book or seen the miniseries (I haven't), though I think it would be even better if you have. It is very long and angsty as hell and creepy and scary and beautifully written and has been keeping me up at night! [ETA: And there is also lots of love and some good h/c.] Here is a link to her fic index.

I heartily second this rec. All of her work is wonderful, but this and "Haunted" are my favorites, at the moment.

I've been meaning check this out for a long time and I'm so glad I finally started (even if it means not being able to get anything else done this week). I'm still on chapter 30 so I've got a good deal left to go, but it's good to know there are other Sema fics waiting for me later.

Is Billy/Dom the only slash pairing in this story? I've read The Stand and I love it but Monaboyd is really not my thing. But I'd give it a try because 'The Stand' is simply great!

Yeah, that's the only slash pairing in there. It's an established relationship thing with not a ton of sex, so almost more like gen with a lot of love in it... but I understand how you feel. I know there are a ton of great Monaboyd (and Orlijah omg) fics out there but I don't read them all that often either.

The same author has a bit of Orlijah as well! From the same index, the WIP called Journey's End. That's spoilerish for the other series Lost, Apart, and Found, which are all omg amazing, but if you're looking for Elijah slash, I'm sure this would be very angsty and good!

Well, I knew I shouldn't have (since the story isn't finished), but I clicked the link this morning and started reading.

So now I've read 45 chapters of a WIP which hasn't been updated in 4 months, and feel all at a loss.

It IS a good story, isn't it? I haven't read the King stories either, but it still works.

I thought about warning for the WIP thing but then I figured, hey, it's there on the fic index... I don't know the author at all but I did notice that there were a few other times when she took a few months' hiatus between chapters, so I'm hanging on to hope that she'll come back again to finish it. Did you see chapter 46? It isn't linked to from the index.
