Thank you!
Thank you, friends, for helping make yesterday such a great birthday for me!
Yesterday we had really lovely weather here (after cold and rain on Monday and Tuesday). I didn't have any classes but I went out to lunch at a Thai restaurant with four of my school friends, one of whom I hadn't talked to much since her research trip to Mexico this summer. We stayed there for a long time and had a good conversation (and I got to take home lots of yummy leftovers – am about to eat some now). My roommate had other stuff going on last night but we've made plans to go out to a favorite pizza and desert place in Saint Paul next week. I'll probably be going out with my sister and her husband and friends tomorrow night for rockclimbing, which we haven't done in way too long, followed by some more excellent pizza (that's not for my birthday but we can pretend). Then on Saturday I'll have dinner and cake with my extended family at my parents' house.
Also yesterday I got an e-mail from my host-sister from the Argentine family I stayed with for four months back in 1995. I'd been really close with her family but we haven't been in touch for years. She wrote a long update on what she and the rest of the family have been up to, and attached a lot of photos (including a bunch of her adorable two-year-old nephew) so that was pretty awesome. I haven't written back yet but it'll be exciting to tell her that I'm planning on going back to Argentina early next year!
I am delighted with the ficlets people wrote for me.
mews1945 got at my sentimental side with Bath Time, a lovely, tender fic about wee Frodo and Merry;
honeyandvinegar and
lilybaggins got at my kinky side with Casey/Zeke haikus and a Frodo/Aragorn drabble; and
claudia603 got at my kinkily sentimental side with a drabble in which Merry pays attention to Frodo's scars (it is G-rated gen omg but still). I also had a good chat with
danachan and she sent me a draft a beautiful fic that continues our shared Saga of Celandine and Periwinkle. It made me feel all warm and happy to read.
What really kept me feeling happy and loved all day (eh, starting Tuesday night and continuing into today) was the steady stream of good wishes from so many of my friends in posts, comments, v-gifts (from
alchemilla,
layne67, and
hanarobi) and e-mails. Thank you all so very much. I'm really grateful that you're part of my life.
