Last chance to sign up for Yuletide 2007

Yuletide sign-ups close tonight at 9:00 PM, Eastern US time! O fence-sitters and procrastinators, now is the time! I am so impressed and excited that there are now 1214 people signed up. I can't wait to get my assignment.

Hey, did you know Yuletide is not just for slash? You are only obligated to write the fandom and characters that your recipient requests, and you don't need to pair them up if you don't want to.

I redid my assignment last night because I'd reviewed one of the canons and realized I wanted to make my request more specific. I also took out a couple things I'd offered that I was less excited about writing and that no one else had requested anyway. I'd meant to add something new to my list of offers, but that didn't work out.

See, the other day I was looking through the list of neediest fandoms (I don't think there's a separate URL, but you can get to it from the full list of requested fandoms), ones where they might not be able to match anyone with the requests that have been made. I was excited to see Avalon on the list because, yay, another Elijah movie, and one that I like quite a bit. I can be a good Yuletide citizen and offer to write in a needy fandom! And writing about a Jewish immigrant family could be a good challenge for me as a Midwestern Lutheran. But it turns out the Avalon they're referring to is the 2001 live-action Polish-language film by Mamoru Oshii, the director who made Ghost in the Shell. Seems interesting (I'm not an anime girl, but I do like Polish!), but I haven't seen it and don't know whether I would like it.

Next year I will try to be more organized and catch things like this before they finalize the list of fandoms. The same thing happens with Men with Guns, which to me is the John Sayles movie about the Guatemalan genocide (which, you might think, not very fannish, but it's a good movie!) but at Yuletide means something else. When there are two movies with the same they're usually distinguished by the year they came out, but both Men with Guns movies are from 1997, so I wonder how they'd do it.

Anyway, Yuletide! Whoo!

Can't *wait* to get my assignment. I just checked and everything I have offered now has at least one request so yay!

It's a bit nerve-wracking, isn't it, but in a good way :-)

Hee!

I got the same assignment both times. It's a good thing because I was thinking of a possibly story line as I was driving to work.

But yes, it's time to panic!

Did you get the same assignment both times?

Yuletide, whoo! I am kind of excited about this (and am about to make a post).

Whoo! I kind of wrote something for one of your requests At That Post (but it was not Mysterious Skin) - I'll show it to you when you're back (since I'm nervous about this new/different fandom thing).

*has fond memories also of Nils the prostitute*
