Merlin drabbles

Title: Love Match

Love matches are for peasants, Uther's father said to stop him complaining he'd never love Igraine. So they gained a piece of land and a peace between kingdoms, but soon the love between them matched the tactical advantages, and then it surpassed them, and all was well and right until she was gone and nothing was right at all.
When the time comes, Uther knows, Arthur won't complain. He'll give up his mooning peasant boy and make of himself a piece of currency in the horrid traffic in lands and titles, sons and daughters. All for the love of Camelot.

Morgana was eleven the first time Uther walked in on her kissing a boy. The shouting lasted for days. When she was fourteen he put her in the dungeon for kissing one of her girl cousins, only to find her trying to seduce the guards – not in order to get out or even because she felt any particular attraction to them, but just as one more way of defying him. By the time Gwen came to the castle Morgana was sixteen and Uther had given up any hope of controlling her. But for her own sake, he said, if she wanted any kind of future, she must keep her virtue intact until the day she married.
"That much is easy," she says now, threading her hands through her lover's hair. "As far as he's concerned, my virtue is a piece of skin."
"It's intact," Gwen says, and goes back to licking Morgana's clit.
For the first time in her life, Morgana is in love, and with just one person. She has every intention of being true to Guinevere from now until the day she dies. Her true virtue is her faithfulness, and it's Uther – not Morgana – who will destroy it.

He bowed his head and listened and learned, and he grew strong and powerful with the years. Then he spoke aloud, "In Camelot there is a son who betrayed his father, and there is a wizard who betrayed his people. Who will seek justice?"
In his mind Morgana answered, I will.

The people of Camelot depend on the land but do not live its rhythm. It's been a year since Merlin arrived and now Arthur is crown prince, Gwen is an orphan, Morgana is a murderer in her heart. And Merlin is not the boy he was, can never circle home again.

And even though she knew she should be afraid for him, all she could think was, my Merlin, of course and all she could feel was pride.

Merlin with his ugly red scarf and his too-long neck and his trembling lips, and all Arthur wants to do is kiss him. Maybe he's under a spell already. If so, he can't bring himself to care.
