There might be something by me there or in the other fandoms as well! You should go check them out! I am also having fun reading some of the remixed originals, though other times I just read the remixes.

Speaking of Merlin and Morgana, did you see

slightlytookish's new fic, Born to Rule the Storm? She does a great job bringing the characters from the show toward some Arthurian legend canon and I really hope the show will develop something like this in the future.

theswearingkind wrote me a ficlet! It is Merlin and Lancelot and Arthur and exile and destiny, and like

slightlytookish's you can read it as shippy or as about friends who really care about each other. I love it.

lilian_cho and I are both writing Merlin ficlets at the new prompt board at

writing_game. I am so impressed with

lilian_cho's ability to sketch whole AUs in just a drabble. Mine are more often different perspectives on canon moments or quiet shippy things, though I did have fun with that Mermaid Gwen/Morgana I did for Claudia. I ought to make that a challenge for myself, to make at least a couple of the ficlets that I do for this round AU.

I had a new disc of Battlestar Galactica come in the mail today (first disc of season 2.5, whatever that means) so I think I'm going to watch an episode or two and then do another batch at

remixthedrabble later tonight. That way I'll only have one left for tomorrow morning and can attempt to get my car to the mechanic in the afternoon. *apprehensive*

Also, what's wronG with your car?

You are pro-AU in LotR but you like your Merlin fics to take place in Camelot! I ought to write some drabbles in the AU where Merlin is deaf though, or else the other AU where Merlin is deaf. I could do a set of them and not feel so bad about the fact that I'm not writing the actual fic.

My car is running fine right now but some repairs have been recommended and just yesterday it started making very small mysterious clanking noises. Maybe it will turn out to be nothing.

...which deaf!Merlin?

There are two of them omg. The more developed (though still completely unwritten) one is a no-magic modern AU where Morgana lost her hearing from an illness and then had a cochlear implant that worked out well for her, so Arthur (her stepbrother) assumes Merlin would want to do the same thing, but Merlin is happy with who he is and so of course finds Arthur arrogant and annoying, and then of course they fall in love and live happily ever after (and Merlin is still deaf).

The other one is in Camelot and is pretty much just like the show except that Merlin is deaf, sort of like how

greensilver's A Step to the Left is just like the show except that Merlin is a girl, and that changes things. Like Claudia and I think deaf!Merlin is less likely to interfere in the bullying scene in the first episode because he's not going to start yelling at someone across the courtyard. But he would still be running errands and things for Gaius and so would be come friends with Gwen, and Arthur would sort of see him around and be curious about him but not want to admit that he cared that much. And meanwhile Merlin would still, you know, be saving Arthur's life with magic but Uther would not necessarily make him Arthur's manservant because Uther would assume Merlin couldn't be useful, you know? (But eventually, again, they would fall in love and so on.)

So would Merlin be compensating for his deafness with his magic? Do people just assume that he's uncannily good at reading lips?

I would like to read both of them too! I would rather do that than write them! I think I too would rather read the second one because that's just my thing, but otoh I think it would likely be more depressing because, eh, it was harder being deaf in the Middle Ages than it is now, and I would not want an angstfest. Also the first one has a little bit more of a plot, in my head at least. :)

It also depends on whether you're going to let Merlin have his magic in the modern AU though!

Very true! :D It's very weird that I sort of shun AUs in Merlin but am disappointed that there aren't more of them in LOTR and I love them in Sentinel! :D I like your idea of doing that deaf Merlin fic!

I guess in both Merlin and LotR you like the canon world a lot and would just like more freedom as far as plots. LotR can be hard to move around in with plots because Frodo and Aragorn met and then they separated and then Aragorn was married and Frodo was traumatized, whereas BBC canon Merlin and Arthur go on little adventures all the time that are really very similar to the little adventures you dream up for Frodo and Aragorn, so there is a lot of room. But you are not as interested in two guys living in the twentieth century doing whatever, even if they are pretty as Arthur and Merlin.

I keep staring and the prompt table and not being able to choose one (or two) to write about, even though all the prompts are good. I can't deal with this many choices. :(

For me, to _mot_ write an AU would be a challenge ^^;;
This was true in Harry Potter and only got worse in Merlin fandom =P Thankfully, Merlin fandom loves their AUs.

(I think my AU love stems from my fascination with the idea of time travel, parallel worlds and reincarnation ever since I was a wee kid watching Quantum Leap. Or possibly earlier than that.)

Have you watched Doctor Who at all?

I've watched a few ep.s of the first season and a few eps. of the second season. Although David Tennant = <3, I'm just not that into aliens & sci-fi, I guess. Whereas Quantum Leap = AU life every single episode, Doctor Who sometimes creeps me out, sometimes bores me ^^;;

I do like that French girl episode, with the steampunk-looking mechanical dolls. But that's time travel/multiple windows into various points in space-time, really =3

I can't deal with this many choices. :(

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think a lot of Classic Who fans complain that the new show is too much about earth with not enough aliens, but a lot of my favorite episodes are historical ones. I loved the Girl in the Fireplace, the third season episode where they meet Shakespeare, the fourth season episode where they visit Pompeii. I hate the Daleks and Cybermen. :(

I watched Quantum Leap when I was a kid too. It was great.
