kink-bingo card!
I got my
kink_bingo card! Here it is below the cut, not entirely safe for work:

Then here it is in table form.Maybe later I will figure out how to make a fancier table As of July 16th, I'm adding links to the fanworks I've used to fill the squares. Linked table is moved to my kink_bingo cards and banners collection post!
It's neat how just from having played last year I am much more confident looking at all these squares than I would have been before. Like watersports and public humiliation were two of the most intimidating things on my card last year but I had fun filling them and am okay with having them on my card again. There are a few kinks that were on my card last year that I'm somewhat relieved not to have repeated because they were really not my thing. Some exciting squares that I haven't had before are silk, velvet, feathers, furs (perfect for Merlin fandom and not bad for LotR, not bad at all!), sex toys (worn under clothing), collars (eee), fucking machines, and consent play. Since three of those are in a line I figure it might be easiest to start with that first column. On the other hand it does have sleepy/unconscious, which for whatever reason is one of the few squares I never managed to fill on my card from last year (people did give me some lovely prompts though so I can probably figure out something). Not especially my thing but intriguing are food and medical kink. I am slightly disappointed that I didn't get gags, spanking, gender play, crossdressing, or the new vanilla kink. Of course, there is the free square!
I think making two bingos during the scoring period (four months this year, though I expect to be pretty useless in September) and a blackout through the whole year is a reasonable goal, but we'll see how things go.
I don't really have any thoughts about fandoms or ships yet. The new Achievements System is very exciting, especially in the way it encourages works about underrepresented identities and characters, but it does make things a lot more complicated. I feel like I need to do a lot more planning this year to see if I can get a line with all chromatic characters or rare ships or whatever, and it won't work for me to just go along filling whatever squares I can whenever I think of them, like I did last year.
So, obviously I will work with some Merlin stuff. I can keep in mind that Uther as an older character will count toward an underrepresented identities bingo. We have some awesome characters of color but sadly not fat characters or characters with disabilities. What about some other fandoms? It would be neat to do something with Avatar, Community, and maybe some even smaller fandoms like TV and movies I've seen recently - Treme (Jacques/Jannette/food, y/y?), But I'm a Cheerleader, Tipping the Velvet, or Whip It. Hmm.
I do definitely want to work on expanding what kinds of fanworks I make this year. Last year I did mostly podfics and fics and one rec set. This year I also intend to do at least one poem and one song. I think the fact that they don't need to be about a specific source this year will make songwriting easier. Other things to consider are icons, picspams, and essays. I tend to shy away from writing meta, but 500 words is not really very much, so I should try. I should see if I can get a student discount on Photoshop before it's too late omg. What about a vid? That would be a real challenge, but maybe I could do it. Anyway yeah, I think I can definitely get a multimedia bingo and/or a text-free one and, idk, I think I'm starting to become one of those people who agitate all over fandom with this FANDOM IS NOT ONLY FANFIC business, but it's nice to hang out at kink-bingo where that is also the mods' position.
In case you missed it,
bironic has an excellent essay On Noncon and Noncon Play in Fanfic posted as part of the ramp-up for
kink_bingo. Lots of stuff there that I identify with and it felt really affirming to read it and have other people articulating things I feel in comments; I also think it could also be really illuminating for people who don't share or understand that kink. As a reminder, I'd ask you to avoid commenting to my posts to say "I can't stand noncon" or "I'm not reading/downloading this because..." Obviously everybody's free to consume what they want and skip things they're not into, but I'd just as soon you not tell me about your dislike/squick for what I'm doing, especially on a fanwork post where I probably feel exposed and squirmy enough already. :)
Meanwhile I'm still dithering about whether to do summerpornathon, which also opened up signups yesterday. It could be a lot of fun but I'm not sure if writing a lot of short fics is what I want to work on right now, I mean whether it fits with my goals of branching out in types of fanworks and ships and fandoms. A few of my friends and fellow femslash fans (ETA and also friends who are not femslash fans and are still awesome) are playing but I think it's unlikely I'd end up on a team with any of them. And to be honest the signup form is pretty much freaking me out. That is, it looks like something where people are already having a lot of fun, but the thought of filling it out myself seems tiring and intimidating, and it gives me the feeling that I would not really fit in there. (This is OKAY and not any kind of judgment against the participants or the mods omg! I have plenty of other things to work on!)
ETA Signed up for
summerpornathon, woot!
