finales, podcasts

I stopped watching House about a year and a half ago, I think, but I did use to like the show a lot and I'm interested in watching the finale. Can anybody tell me whether it stands up okay on its own or how many episodes before the end they'd recommend watching? I'd go for three or four of them but probably not the whole season.

[personal profile] zulu had a fun post last week On series finales (including House spoilers, so I skimmed a lot) and what makes them good. I was sad that I didn't know most of the examples she and commenters talked about.

Then it was neat to hear some of the same examples come up in the discussion on series finales in this week's NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour. They also talked about things to do on road trips and there was a little aside about how some books work better as audiobooks than others that also gave me thoughts about podfic.

PCHH also talked about The Avengers a couple weeks ago. That was not really a typical episode because the host Linda Holmes was on vacation, and I can't help but think their discussion would have done better by Black Widow if she'd been there, but it was still pretty fun. I went back to see Avengers this weekend and will probably go for a third time soon...because I guess I'm a sheep? Well, that's a mean way of putting things. I like doing stuff with my friends, so that's good.

I sometimes hesitate to talk about all the podcasts I listen to because I feel like I should be listening to more podfic, but, well, here is some more talk about podcasts. PCHH is my favorite (it is the happiest) but I also listen to a bunch of Slate podcasts. They are, idk, they are sometimes good and sometimes annoying and even offensive, but mostly I find them interesting and I've just gotten used to them and I keep listening.

And then just in the past week or two I've started listening to two of their newer ones and I'm liking those a lot. The Afterword is June Thomas interviewing authors of nonfiction books. My favorite of the ones I've listened to so far is her interview with Alison Bechdel. And Lexicon Valley is a language/linguistics one dealing with a different topic each week. My favorite so far is the one about "between you and I" (but I haven't listened to the Scrabble one yet, and I am a big Scrabble fan).
