Thoughts

So this was a super fun edition of summerpornathon, partly because I got to join Team Gluttony where I've always had a lot of my friends, and thus got to hang out with my buddies in chat a lot, also because flammablehat and I made a regular weekly thing of getting together to write. We're trying to keep that going now even though pthon is over and I've been a lot busier at work.

The other two times I participated in summerpornathon I had set some goals for myself:
1. Write a different ship for each of the seven challenges
2. At least one fic should involve a male character of color
3. At least one fic should involve a trans or genderqueer character or a disabled character
4. At least one fic should be Arthur/Merlin

In 2011 I met goals 1, 2, and 3. In 2012 I met goals 1, 2, and 4. This year I did not meet any of those goals! But I think I'm okay with that.

See, I wrote Gwen/Morgana for the Snatch challenge, which provoked some anti-femslash grumbling, which pissed me off, so when I had a Gwen/Morgana bunny for the next challenge I was like whatever fuck variety this is my ship! Morgana probably woulda been trans or genderqueer in the bicycle fic if I hadn't already been trying to cram too much into those 750 words, so it didn't work out. I didn't feel like writing Arthur/Merlin because of the stuff I mentioned, and also because I'd written that pairing for camelotremix back in the spring and been disappointed by the response. And I totally forgot about the goal of writing men of color, as I tend to forget to do.

Another difference with past years is that I had one fic place in 2011 and one fic place in 2012, and this year it was zero. Team Gluttony has always come in first in the past and this year, with me, they tied for fourth place. So, yeah.

But whatever I wrote a ton of femslash, including two pairings I'd been meaning to do for a long time but had thus far only written as drabbles (Gwen/Freya and Gwen/Annis), and wrote my OT3 twice! And most of my fics were enjoyed by my friends! A pretty good year!

We've decided to follow up the regular pthon challenge with a little remix challenge where we only remix things made for pthon by current or former members of Team Gluttony. I am modding this and about to extend the deadline by two weeks because I'm nowhere close to finishing and that seems to be a lot of people's situation. But I am happy to be continuing with a little bit of making after the end of the summer. I still love this big ridiculous fandom.

Ooh, I was just going to say I hope merlin_holidays runs again because I'd like to participate again, and it looks like signups open tomorrow! I need to think about what I want to request ack. Also gosh that deadline is going to come up quickly. But anyway yay Merlin!!!
