Hi everybody. I’m Sophie and I’m brand new, or new to having a LiveJournal anyway. I’ve been lurking around several fandoms for several months, devouring stories about hobbits, more recently stories about the lovely actors who portray them, and occasionally stories about other characters played by those same actors... but really the true love is for the hobbits, I think.

I’ve just gotten through another semester of grad school despite an ever growing fanfic obsession and I think the time has come for me to start being a bit more social. The few authors I’ve been in touch with so far have been very friendly and welcoming, and I can’t wait to get to know more of you.

If I ever finish any fics myself I’ll post them here, but for the time being the purpose of this journal is to leave comments on other people’s fine writing and, I hope, have some good discussions about common interests.

Ah, if I friend you it’s probably because I like your writing and want to keep up with your posts. If you’d rather I not do this, please let me know (but then I’ll just have to stalk you anyway). I will not be offended in the least if you don’t friend back.

I think that’s about it for now. There are new chapters of Rites of Passage and Borderlines up since I was last online, so I’m looking forward to a long afternoon and evening of angsty reading goodness. Thanks for stopping by.

I'd be happy to mention you joining LJ on my LJ, but only if you'd be comfortable with that. And I'd tell people you've lurked but have provided encouragement for various stories and wish to continue to do that.

Aw, that's sweet of you, but I don't really feel like there's much reason to encourage people to come by yet. I've just been working on getting up the nerve to introduce myself on comment on other people's LJs. Delurking is a gradual process, you know?

What I really need to do is write some fic, but for some reason I can only think in terms of long series that I fear I'll never finish. We go to Shirebound for fluffy bunnies, but where can we go for slashy bunnies?

Well, he *is* gorgeous, so it's not too difficult to find gorgeous icons of him. Proverb's got zillions of them though, I took this from her website, http://www.proverbialweb.com. It was the closest I could find to shy!Frodo.

I just tried using some html to put in that link and it didn't work. :( Well, I've still got time to learn, I guess.

That icon doesn't look like a movie frame, though . . . it looks almost like a painting or something. Ethereal. Okay, more ethereal than usual. :)

I know, but I wanted to do it so you could just click on "her website" and it would take you there. I managed something like that in the entry I did tonight and, ugh, my first LJ cut (that took a few tries), but I couldn't do it in a comment. Oh well.

Uh-oh, I'm no help there. I've wanted to figure out how to do that for many a long year now on LJ, but, er, never have.

Thanks, Bunnie! I apologize for friending without asking, was just feeling a little shy. But you're one of those people I figured I couldn't be in the fandom and not at least keep track of. Thanks so much for the constant pic updates and countless squeeing opportunities. Every one of your icons makes me crazy happy. I mean, look at this! Look at his little eartip! Look at the dirt on his face! Yay!

Oh, asking to friend is absolutely not necessary! Jeez, when I jumped in, I just friended everyone I liked and just butted right in. *snicker*

Thanks for the icon compliment -- I love them, and I love making them. It doesn't stop me from suffering from icon envy, though; some people are soooo good at making them! Yours is beautiful, by the way. :)

It's funny, because I can't see how anyone could possibly be offended by it, but then again I see people apologizing and asking for permission all the time. Also, I did once see a rant by a girl who was upset that "someone I've never even heard of" had sent her an e-mail. That kind of thing can be a bit intimidating.

I just had a "crises" or something, over that fact. I got some one who friended me that I don´t know. I was not offended, merely surprised and taken off guard. It´s quite nice actually, I just don´t know why. I mean, I´m not one who puts anything interesting in my journal. I only read everybody else's.

Hi Suzy, good to see you here! I don't think you should be surprised that people put you on their list. We're friendly people with a lot of common interests and tastes, so it's fun for me to know what stories you're reading, what movies you're watching, how you're feeling about things, even if you don't post a lot of stories or pictures.

hi, i just saw you friended me. glad you've got over your nerves about friending -- it's just a big mush, i reckon. i was just scrolling back through your entries to see who you are, and it's so nice to have someone articulating the thrill of discovering slash and fandom -- takes me back, and i've only beein in lotrips (sorry, i'm not so much into FPS) for a couple of years. your lovely posts made me all nostalgic. :D

anyway, hi, glad you've got your own lj, and can i just add, with the lj and html formatting, it was all new to me too -- LJ FAQ page is my friend. before you know it you'll be making 'a href' links without thinking!

Hey, the other Soph! It's not so much that I've gotten over my nerves as that you said on your userinfo page that it was ok, which was very nice of you, but it would have been nicer of me to leave a comment. Most of the people who've come by here are more into hobbits, and that's what I'm more used to and comfortable with too, but I do love reading lotrips, especially domlijah (I know, I'm so original, lol) and you're one of my favorite writers of it. I've especially enjoyed your collaborations with

airgiodslv, and then yesterday I read your new fic "Ease" and, guh. So I figured I should go ahead and friend so I can keep up.

The formatting, yeah, I'm learning, slowly. Italics are now easy, lj usernames, getting easier, but the a href is still a really big deal if I can pull it off.
