When the door of the TARDIS opened the air was warm, there were palm fronds overhead, and a beautiful woman was pointing a gun at them. Specifically at the Doctor, who probably looked to her like more of a threat just by virtue of his gender, and who was not helping himself with his psychic paper and his smile and the pseudo-soothing nonsense he was spouting. This woman was clearly in no mood to be soothed.

"Look," said Martha, while still keeping her hands in the air, "we've got a spaceship. Do you really want to be pointing that gun at us?"

"That's not a spaceship," the woman said angrily, "it's a…"

"Phone booth that materialises out of nothing, all right, but you should still put that thing down."

Two more people walked out into the clearing – they'd been holding hands but dropped them and rushed forward as soon as they saw what was going on. The blonde woman stood close to the dark-skinned girl with the gun, laid a hand gently on her shoulder and said, "She's right, Ana Lucia" in a more effectively soothing voice. "We don't need any more killing on this island."

"Is this an island with a lot of killing on it?" said the Doctor. "Because we were actually just interested in a nice holiday, must have miscalculated somehow but, er, perhaps we'll just head back now."

"No we won't," said Martha, stepping forward. "We don't run away from danger or injustice, do we, Doctor?" Besides that (as she was quite sure the Doctor understood), this island and this girl were gorgeous, and Martha really was past being scared of a little gun like that.

"Stay right where you are," Ana Lucia barked. Martha reluctantly stood still and raised her hands again.

"Wait a sec," said the big man with curly hair who'd come on the scene with the blonde woman. "Ana Lucia, don't shoot them, I wanna talk to them." She was clearly listening but she still didn't lower the gun. "Dude," he said to the Doctor, "did you say you were gonna turn around and go back?"

"That was my idea, yeah. Though apparently Martha's dead set on her fun in the sun, so –"

"I think I deserve it after the ice prison you got us stuck in last time."

"How many people can you fit in that phone booth," asked the man. Ana Lucia's eyes went wide and at last she lowered the gun, allowing the other woman to take it from her hand. Apart from relief Martha felt admiration – her thought when these two had come on the scene was that they were friendlier than Ana Lucia but also less interesting, so she was impressed that he was already looking beyond the whole spaceship issue to wonder just how much bigger it was on the inside.

"I'm afraid we can't take any people at all if they're carrying guns," said the doctor, whose hands were still in the air.

"That's okay. We'll throw it in the ocean or something, right, Libby?" The blonde woman nodded, shoved the gun in the back of her jeans and moved closer to him, away from Ana Lucia. "But…you could get us off this island?"

The Doctor shrugged, looked at Martha, who chose not to answer one way or another. "Don't see why not," he said. "Just the three of you?"

"Um, more like fifty, actually. Some of us died but then more keep showing up."

The Doctor took a deep breath and said, "All right, why don't we all try meeting each other and then we'll see what we can work out."

"I do not fucking believe this," Ana Lucia muttered.

"Hey," said the man. "I don't know about you, but I've seen a whole lot of things on this island that I never would've believed before."

He took his friend's hand and, on impulse, Martha took reached out and took Ana Lucia's, which had seemed empty and small since she'd let go of the gun.

"Good then," Martha said cheerfully. "Which way is the beach?"

Title: Next Time
Fandoms: LotR/Doctor Who
Starring: Sam, Frodo, Gandalf, and Ten
Rating: G
Words: 390
Summary: Sam will kill him if he tries anything.
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] estelanui

They were getting ready to set off from Rivendell toward Bree (Merry and Pippin were still saying farewell to some of their Elvish friends) when the noise started throbbing and the lights started flashing and Sam felt he was right back at Minas Morgul, but Frodo was standing and staring with a look of wonder on his face, so Sam made himself keep his own eyes open and stand next to him as the crisp clear air formed into lines and corners and faded into a tall blue box with runes on the top that looked not a bit familiar. It opened up and a man stepped out, and he and Frodo grinned at each other like long lost friends.

"Frodo Baggins," said the man, "there you are. I've been looking all over for you."

"I…" Frodo stammered. "I'm sorry, I don't think I remember you. But I am very glad to see you."

"Is it…? Ah, out of order then, I'm so sorry." He nodded politely to Sam and glanced nervously at Gandalf, who was gripping his staff rather tightly and glaring at the stranger under a lowered brow.

"I'm afraid that Frodo's work here is not quite finished, Doctor," said the wizard.

"Aw, really, Gandalf? He looks like he's been through a lot already. Don't you fancy going on a holiday, Frodo?"

At that Sam decided to join Gandalf in his disapproving glare. He crossed his arms over his chest and moved slightly in front of Frodo.

"That sounds lovely," said Frodo, "but Gandalf is probably right. I should see to some things in the Shire. Would you…do you suppose you might come back?"

"I might," said the Doctor, "I will. Just want to make sure I know how to find you."

"We have some work to do, it seems," said Frodo, with a little frown at Gandalf. "And then I'd like to rest for a time, but I think I should be ready for another adventure in…a year or two."

Now this was the first time Sam had heard any such notion out of Frodo's mouth, and he couldn't say he was pleased, but he noticed that Gandalf was no longer glaring. Instead his eyes held the same queer twinkle as the Doctor's, his mouth the same barely contained smile.

"You'll tell him where to meet me, won't you?" said Frodo.

"Yes, Frodo," said Gandalf. "Yes, I will."

I am just SO sick of the plot going in circles and nothing ever getting resolved. That's why I liked season 4 as much as I did - things actually changed and questions were answered, which are both so necessary for a show to hold my attention. Too bad Heroes is less coherent than Lost now, which is something I never thought I'd say.

I don't have a clue about Doctor Who, but anyone who can make Frodo happy is a-okay with me. :)

I've never watched Dr. Who, but I enjoyed the cheerful meeting between him and the hobbits and Gandalf.

Oh wow! I loved both of those! The first two seasons of LOST were my favorites, and I hated that they killed off most of the "tailies"--Ana Lucia and Libby were full of so much potential! And even though I'm not much on 'shipping, I *did* 'ship Libby and Hurley. You wrote an awesome Hurley!

And that second one? *grin* I did love that one so much--I can so see Frodo as a Companion! (Actually, I could see all four of them as Companions--although the Doctor might be hard put to keep up with them all!)

Oh WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! What fun!!! These were BOTH delightful. I love the idea of the Doctor rescuing the LOST islanders AND picking Frodo up for a turn around time while he was waiting for Sam to show up, eh? Too bad he couldn't have shown up soon enough to just pick up the ring and drop it into Mount Doom and have done with the whole mess....

Wonderful fun!! Thanks for these!

(And please, all you people who haven't ever watched New Who, give it a try,it is worth it for the intelligent humor and the angst alone, but they even give you -- romance!)

I understood it was while they were on their way home, between Rivendell and Bree, yes? The Doctor just showed up too soon. Was he supposed to wait until they reached Tol Eressea or what, show up at the Grey Havens? Anyway, I got the timing. I just thought, if he was going to be early, he should have been MUCH earlier. But you are right, he would not interfere quite that much. He might have slipped in and taken the place of the eagles as transport though! Heee
