Merlin podfic: Down in the Valley (where nobody knows)

Repodding is when a podfic is made of a fic that has already been podficced. Podfic is awesome, therefore two podfics is even more awesome, right? Every podficcer brings something different to the table and it's fun to see how different podficcers approach the same thing. To find out more about repodding, check out pod_aware on LJ or DW.

anatsuno has a good pro-repodding rant whereas the podcast at podcast includes a bunch of different perspectives. As the accents thing, this is a topic where my ideas have changed somewhat over time. For the most part I'm not interested in recording something that's already been podficced, or in listening to multiple podfics of the same story. But some people are really into that and that's cool! (I also don't usually listen to the same podfic more than once, though I know lots of people love that.)

I was struck by something paraka said in a couple different podcasts this week though, which is that a lot of the people who signed up for multipodicity were nervous first time podficcers who found it reassuring to know that even if their version didn't turn out right, there would still be another one for listeners to enjoy. It got me thinking again about the Elena/Morgana ficlet I mentioned on Thursday, how I kind of wanted to read it myself but more than that I wanted to hear it read with a Southern accent, and mostly I just wanted a podfic of it to exist.

So! Tonight I convinced a friend of mine to record that fic in a Southern accent! That version is coming soon, and my version is here! There will be two of them - MORE RAREPAIR FEMSLASH COUNTRY AU and a happy ending for everybody! (There is even has a happy ending in this version of the text, posted at the AO3, whereas the shorter one posted at summerpornathon and kinkme_merlin earlier this year did not have one.)

Yeah. I'm not against repodding, I've seen a couple of my podfics pop up repodded and it doesn't bother me but it's never really been something I wanted to do.

When I first heard about the idea it kind of freaked me out, but I've listened to other people's reasons and at this point it just tends to leave me mildly puzzled. Sort of a similar feeling to when I interact with people who say they can only stand to read and write their OTP. And I like their OTP fine but it's not creatively inspiring for me because I feel like it's all been done already.
