remixthedrabble repost
Authors' names are up for the
remixthedrabble lightning round. It was a little complicated because we were each supposed to write for three other people and only four people signed up, but not all of us have matching fandoms. But
trascendenza the mod and everyone else was flexible and we ended up with 14 ficlets rather than 12, which is great.
(Sign-ups are now open for the next round and I'm thinking I'll probably sit this one out, what with that larger remix I need to write in the next couple weeks, but if enough of you sign up I'm sure I'll cave.)
dreams_power wrote Soothing Presence (The Lost and Found Remix), perfectly handled River side of a Kaylee drabble I wrote recently.
trascendenza wrote Is That So? (Process of Elimination Remix), wonderfully funny and also sexy 200-word remix of a "You See, I Woke Up Gay", a Jayne/Simon crack ficlet I did a while back.
And
tinheart did an awesome tragic job with Invictus (Fallen Heroes Remix), a drabble remix of one of my Pan's Labyrinth drabbles. (Like the original, it spoils for the end of the movie, so be careful of that.)
Here are the ones I wrote:
Brokeback Mountain fandom: Jack/Ennis | G | 100 words
Original story: Sepia III (f-locked) by
theswearingkind, 710 words.
(Sepia is a beautifully written series of "Snapshots of what could have been" in which Jack and Ennis buy that little ranch, like Jack used to talk about.)
Brothers (The Happy Beginning Remix)
Not the first time they've told that lie about being brothers, but Ennis never can get used to it, never can make himself believe anyone else would believe it. Lying's better than the alternative, but it puts a bad taste in his mouth, so he keeps quiet and lets Jack do the talking, which Jack seems to be happy enough to do, but then he could well be lying about that too.
Still and all, by the end of the day they've got themselves a fall-apart clapboard house and six acres. It's not happy ever after, but it's a start.
Firefly fandom: Kaylee/Inara | PG-13 PWP | 102 words
Original story: Lovely by
trascendenza, 102 words.
(
trascendenza's original was seventeen lines of six words each, and mine is six lines of seventeen words each.)
Lovely (The Six Times Seventeen Remix)
Climbing down into Kaylee's room is like slipping into another world; none of the old rules apply.
Suddenly the smell of engine grease is aphrodisiac. Open smiles, open laughter; no training, no seduction necessary.
Kaylee spreads under you, open as the infinity of space. You hum along with the driving engine.
Sneaking back out to your shuttle is bringing escape, bliss, and real love into the real world.
It's less urgent here, easier to explore, play, tease and lick like candles flickering, then push forward.
Like an engine, like fire. Irresistible, unimpeded. She takes you in and keeps you for her own.
Firefly/Lord of the Rings: Sam Gamgee and the Serenity crew | very G | 200 words
Original story: Five Worlds That Never Collided With The Firefly 'Verse (part 1) by
danachan, 200 words.
(This is one of the ways we got to be flexible.)
One World That Never Collided With The Firefly 'Verse (The Gamgee Remix)
They're all tall, but they're not all alike. Could be another Fellowship, come out of the sky. The one in charge reminds Sam of Aragorn or, more like, of Strider as they first knew him. The lady with the pale skin and dark hair could be an elf queen if her ears were shaped a little different. The lady with the dark skin doesn't look like anyone Sam's seen before but he reckons she could be a queen of whatever country she pleased. Too bad for Jayne they didn't land closer to Bree – he would've fit in better there.
Ah, but Kaylee, she might be very tall and a trifle thinner than suited her, but otherwise you'd swear she was born in the Shire.
The Ranger (as Sam calls him in his head) crosses back from their spaceship to the Party Field, where Primrose and Robin have been teaching Kaylee how to play roopie.
"Are you sure you wouldn't like to stay for supper?" Rosie offers.
"Thank ye kindly, ma'am, but we've had three fine meals already and we really must be going."
Faces fall, and Kaylee drops her sticks.
"But nothing to say we can't come back again someday."
