Doctor Who podfic - lunchy_munchy, fishpatrol, paraka, and cantarina1 collaborated on a podfic of In an Interstellar Burst, an AU of Journey's End in which Rose, Martha, and Donna sort out the Doctor's problems and their own and then go have trope-y adventures and sexytimes in space. !!!!!

Vidding meta - thingswithwings has an interesting discussion about the genre of multifandom Women Are Awesome vids.

XMFC recs - rubynye posted Fanfic & Social Justice: An X-men: First Class Recs Post, a great resource for interesting stories that ends with a great mini-essay contesting the idea that social justice discussions inhibit creativity in fandom or produce boring fics that nobody wants to read:

all of these stories are on my list because I enjoy them, and that enjoyment is enhanced by the truths their authors chose to include rather than elide when they wrote them. In these stories I see a broadened range of our shared humanity, and I think that is an absolutely excellent development.

Merlin fic - themadlurker posted How to Survive Promotion in the Middle Ages, over 80,000 of fun, tightly plotted fic involving Arthur and Gwen as adorable young marrieds plus Merlin, Gwaine, Lancelot, OCs, sword fighting, secret identities, medieval literary references, and other fine things.

The AO3 - The Archive of Our Own is still awesome and getting awesomer all the time! Kudos! Tags! Sorting! Easily downloadable files! And now prompt memes hurrah!! I have invite some codes so let me know if you would like one. Accounts are useful even if you're not interested in posting fic there.

Merlin fest - kinkme_merlin is running the Never Have I Ever challenge, where you earn points by filling prompts with ships, kinks, and fanwork types that you haven't done before. I would probably sign up for this if I weren't already working on exactly the same goals at kink_bingo and summerpornathon this summer (and if I could ever get used to posting anon comments without freaking the hell out). This seems to me like a neat way of encouraging variety at the meme without seeming to be against the most popular pairings, the thing that seemed to upset so many people about Project Diversity last year. Anyway I hope other fans have as much fun as I have been having trying out new things. (Unless they prefer to keep developing their strengths/do more of what they've been doing, which is also cool!)

Fandom angst - SOMETIMES I WORRY THAT I COME OFF AS THE KIND OF SELF-RIGHTEOUS HYPOCRITICAL SOCIAL JUSTICE-R DREAMWIDTH SNOB (OR MAYBE JUST A WANNABE DREAMWIDTH SNOB) THAT PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT ON THE ANON MEMES EVEN THOUGH I DON'T EVEN READ THE ANON MEMES ANYMORE AND WHY SHOULD I CARE WHAT THOSE PEOPLE THINK ANYWAY. I DON'T EVEN KNOW, THESE DAYS I'M READING IDK MAYBE 60 ARTHUR/MERLIN FICS EVERY WEEK AT THE PORNATHON. SOME OF THEM ARE AWESOME AND A FEW ARE BAD AND MOST ARE FINE BUT I READ THEM ALL BECAUSE I WANT TO BE A GOOD PARTICIPANT AND FEEL CONNECTED TO THIS FANDOM. AND I STILL WORRY EVERY TIME I WANT TO SAY "FUCK YEAH FEMSLASH!" THAT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO THINK I'M SOME KIND OF KILLJOY AND WONDER WHAT I'M DOING AT THE COMM, OR ELSE THAT THEY'RE SECRETLY THINKING "OH SURE YOU TALK A GOOD GAME BUT I KNOW HOW MUCH CHARLES/ERIK PWP YOU'VE BEEN READING." WHAT IS THIS YOU GUYS DOES IT EVER GO AWAY? CAN WE EVER JUST HAVE FUN LIKING WHAT WE LIKE?

Ooh, In An Intersteller Burst is basically my favourite DW fic of all time, off to listen, thanks for the link!

Somewhere along the lines the AO3 has become my favourite place to both post and read fic. One of these days I will put together that list of everything I love about the archive, possibly in the form of multiple haiku.

I have, in my less zen moments, been one of the people complaining on anon memes and you have never, ever crossed my mind in connection with the things that irk me. You just seem to like all sorts of differnt things and be equally enthusiastic about all of them, it's kind of my favourite thing about you :-)

Thanks, bb. One of my favorite things about you is the way you go about fangirling women for fun, and not as a penance the way some sectors of socially aware fandom tend to treat it. Same goes for In an Interstellar Burst omg! It is the kind of ridiculous fun that a lot of folks only associate with pretty boys in love.

Say, speaking of ladies having adventures, I'm thinking I'm going to make a few Female Friendship In Space podfics for ladiesbigbang. I have a Star Trek one and a BSG one picked out and that should be enough for the challenge requirements. But in case I have extra time, I wondered if you'd rec any good New Who fics, say about Marta and Donna, or Amy and River, or some other folks idk, between 4000 and 10,000 words? Feel free to self-rec!

Yeah, the forcing yourself to like women as some sort of feminist duty is point of view I tend to side eye and go... okay then, you do that, and I'll be over here looking at pictures of Kalinda Sharma on tumblr. I wonder which of us is having more fun?

The Polar Bears' Golf Club by Doyle Rose & Ace. Okay, I know Ace is a classic companion, but this is the same sort of ridiculous fun as In An Intersteller Burst.

Lessons by Calapine Again, cheating because it's classic companion Romana travelling with Ten & Rose & Reinette, but it's 75% new who, 75% female with no fighting over the man.

Er, I think the only one of mine that fits your bill and isn't shameful is This is Tomorrow (the getaway driver remix) Donna & Christina & a flying bus. The original This is Tomorrow is really good too, but I can't remember off the top of my head if it's more femslashy than friendship.

Oh, thank you. Of those I'm thinking lovely branches looks closest to what I want to do with this set, though Lessons might be fun too. I have definitely thought about doing This Is Tomorrow and the remix before though! Maybe another time, if someone else doesn't beat me to it. :)

I think I saw an episode with Romana once? Only were there two Romanas? I watched the one where they're in Paris with all the copies of the Mona Lisa. Is that the character who's in this fic?

Well, there's Romana I and she dies and regenerates into Romana II, she's the one who's in Lessons and was in Paris with the multiple Mona Lisas. Gosh, the thing with Doctor Who fandom is that after a while you forget quite how mad it sounds when you try to explain it.

PET PEEVE. I hate that! It sometimes just seems kind of obvious that fangirling awesome ladies is some sort of afterthought. But yes, those people are missing the fun!

Also hello and welcome! I saw your comments at t'wings vidding post and I thought, hey, it's always nice to know more people who put women at the center of their fandom (even if I haven't watched any TSCC). So it is good to hear from you here. :)

I don't know how I missed the link to the KMM challenge, but I agree that it sounds like an excellent idea. It has none of the (completely unintentional, I'm know) undertones of "we don't want your naff ship, we're only interested in the cool kids" that came over last year.

I know it's easier said that done, but I really don't think you should worry about being one of "those fans". As long as you aren't (and I've never seen you do so) trying to make other fans feel bad for loving what they love, you're not what we are complaining about.

The thing is, the times I've visited anon memes I saw a lot of people hating on fans I like and respect. It's not so much that I don't want to be like those fans as that I don't want people to call me a snob for saying what I like and don't like, the way anons have done with a lot of my friends (especially friends who don't self-censor as much as I do). I should probably stop talking about this, but I do appreciate you trying to help me stop angsting. :)
