Title: A Run of Crazy Dreams
Author:
GloriaMundi
Reader:
sophinisba
Fandom: Inception/Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Characters/Ships: Arthur/Eames
Rating: PG
Contains: n/a
Author's summary: "Way, way back, many centuries ago ... Arthur is a dream-interpreter in Canaan. Sold into slavery by unscrupulous colleagues, he discovers a thriving market for his skills in Egypt, where strange as it seems, there's been a run of crazy dreams."
Reader's notes: I first saw this recced as Inception/Bible crossover and that's how I've always thought of it. I admit that I don't know the musical at all, so I'm sorry if I missed out on some of the jokes or other things that would have made more sense if I did.

more fandom things!
Nov. 16th, 2011 06:28 pm-
aralias has started up
podtor_who, a new comm for Doctor Who podfic! Sign up for a day between Nov. 20 and Dec. 19 to post a newly recorded Doctor Who podfic! Wouldn't it be great if we had one for every day?
-The Kaleidoscope fanworks exchange is probably going to go live this weekend! In the meantime, they are looking for pinch hits in the following fandoms:
十二国記 | Juuni Kokki | Twelve Kingdoms
青い花 | Aoi Hana | Sweet Blue Flowers
NO.6(ナンバー・シックス) | No. 6 (anime)
Epic of Gilgamesh
Dragon of the Lost Sea - Laurence Yep
Static Shock
サイレン- | Psyren
東海道HISAME | Toukaidou Hisame
姑獲鳥の夏 | Ubume no Natsu | Summer of the Ubume - Kyōgoku Natsuhiko
The mods would appreciate it if you'd pass on this info to people who might be able to help. You can also browse all the requests and make extra treats if you want. ETA: I am so amused by the two Y tu mamá también requests, right there one after the other. That is fandom, right there. God bless. /eta Some of the requests are open for art and fanmixes and vids as well as fic. All the links you need are at
dark_agenda.
-Speaking of rare fandoms, Yuletide is open for signups! I'm not especially in a writing place these days and the nominations process looked scary, so I've decided to sit out official participation again this year, but I do hope to write a treat or three! You can get the links you need for that at
yuletide_admin. The years I participated in Yuletide I had a really awesome time!
-OMG OTW elections! If you're a member, you should have instructions and useful links in your email.

icon meme!
Sep. 4th, 2011 05:13 pmSo
paraka decided to throw an impromptu "Podfic a novel in three days" fest this weekend and, since I was behind with my
ladiesbigbang project, I sorta joined in. It's been nice keeping tabs on each other on Twitter; I tend to make a lot of "Editing is hard! Podfic is a stupid hobby!"-type Tweets whenever I'm doing this stuff, but this weekend other people are actually responding and tweeting about similar things, both good and bad. So that's been a lot of fun and I'm feeling pretty good about being able to finish my rough drafts by the end of the long weekend.
Even so, my goodness is podfic editing time-consuming and tedious! So it's time for an icon meme! I asked
such_heights to pick five of my icons because we have an amusing number of icons in common. Let me know if you would like to play and I will pick five of yours!

movies and tv and things on the Internet
Mar. 30th, 2011 12:00 pmI watched Whip It last week and it was great. Even the things that bugged me about it in the middle worked out in ways that I liked. ( briefly, with spoilers ) I would ship Bliss/Maggie but I haven't found any, but I did enjoy this Maggie/Pash fic, Searching for Something That Makes Hearts Move by
mazily.
Then last night I rewatched Bend It Like Beckham, which I had just seen once a long time ago. It's similar movie in a lot of ways - the girl's joy in finding out she can do something she loves with other girls, the lying to her parents so she keep doing it, the inevitability of the MOST IMPORTANT THING in her sport happening on THE VERY SAME DAY as the MOST IMPORTANT THING in her family life, and other stuff. ( Like femslash ) Anyway, that was fun. It was neat to see the girls so young and cute and, well, kind of awkward and amateurish, after years of watching Parminder Nagra on ER and so many other movies with Keira Knightley. Oh, and what a trip to realized that Jess's older sister Pinky (the sort of ditzy one who doesn't care about anything but her wedding) was played by Archie Panjabi, whom I've been fangirling as Kalinda on The Good Wife. The characters couldn't be more different and I seriously wouldn't have recognized her if I hadn't gone to look up something else on IMDB.
Hey, I think a lot of you saw
Philipa_Moss's Yuletide fic Looking Behind Now, in which Tony from BILB meets Johnny and Omar from My Beautiful Laundrette, but did you see that they posted a sequel last month? Bring Your Mother to Work Day is similarly clever and adorable.
So yeah, Kalinda's pretty awesome, isn't she?! And how about that Diane Lockhart?! Actually I love pretty much everyone on The Good Wife except for Peter, and he's okay too. So much chemistry between everybody too. I'm about two thirds of the way through the first season now. The show took a little while to hook me, idk, at first I thought the way they'd do the exposition was awkward and kind of boring. But the characters have really won me over and I've also really gotten to like the balance between the case of the week plot and larger arcs. It's become my go-to show when I'm ready to be entertained (and not challenged too much) for an hour before I go to bed, the way I sometimes watch Law & Order and used to watch House.
(Is it me or has House been really bad lately? Like, a lot worse than it used to be?)
I'm also watching the first season of Community! I don't usually watch a lot of sitcoms but I decided to check this out after all the campaigning for Troy in Fandom March Madness. All those gifs etc. had led me to believe that Troy and Abed were the main characters so it was sort of disappointing to watch the first few episodes, which were so much about Jeff trying to get in Britta's pants. Still, the ensemble stuff is wonderful and Abed is the wonderfullest (I hope he wins March Madness next year!). Besides the main characters, Señor Chang and Professor Whitman make me laugh a lot.
Speaking of people who want to be the guy from Dead Poets Society,
cereta had a really great post a few weeks ago on Why I hate "one teacher who made a difference". I also really liked reading the discussions over the last few days in her Grading Hell Theater: Misconceptions post, especially the stuff about what English teachers and professors do in real life and what people think they can/should do.
[A smooth transition,] I am so excited about
remix_goes_wild, an open-ended challenge for writing lots of different kinds of remixes, for points! I think it'll be really good both for those of us who are remix addicts and also for folks who like the idea but have not wanted to deal with the deadlines, restrictions, and other pressures of the big exchanges. (Actually, I guess I'm a bit of both - I have done a lot of remixes but I decided I couldn't handle the pressure of Remix Redux this year.) Anyway, signups will open on April 1st and posting will be open through the end of the year. You can sign up to write and/or to make your some or all of your fic available to be remixed.

Rare ship and rare fandom recs
Dec. 31st, 2010 04:09 pmLook you guys!
fitz_y posted a gigantic Merlin Fic Rec Extravaganza Eleganza for slash, femslash, and multi ships other than Arthur/Merlin. This is a great resource (and I'm not just saying that because it includes a couple of my fics and a bunch by my friends)! There's a lot of great variety in Merlin fandom but the Arthur/Merlin stories do tend to be the most popular, and the rarepair stuff can be hard to find. I know when I've used Delicious or AO3 tags to try to find Gwen/Morgana fic, I mostly get Arthur/Merlin fic with Gwen/Morgana in the background. Fic tagged Lancelot/Merlin often turns out to be about Merlin starting out in a relationship with Lancelot but eventually realizing he really loves Arthur. Obviously there's nothing wrong with those kinds of stories, but Fitz's list points us right at the awesome fics where the rarepair is the main one. Hooray!
The epicness of that post puts me to shame - so much I haven't read, even for my favorite rare pairings! But here is my own humble rec list, just four more of my favorites from the Yuletide stories I've read.
( fandoms: The Catcher in the Rye, Old Spice Man/Beowulf, The Muppet Show/Doctor Who/Doctor Who RPF, The Handmaid's Tale )

A few Yuletide recs
Dec. 26th, 2010 06:43 pmSo much happy small fandom reading! Here are my favorites from what I've read so far this Yuletide - several are for fandoms I've requested in the past or would have requested this year, and the fics have all the things I love - it feels almost as if they were written for me! I hope you like some of them too!

Aug. 29th, 2010 04:04 pm-Look you guys,
themadlurker wrote me a Leverage ficlet! It has Hardison and Sophie and nerdiness! What more could you want?! "I Was an Alien Babe of the Week and All I Got Was This Avery Brooks T-Shirt" on Dreamwidth and on LJ. :D :D

aiw_big_bang is a Big Bang for all (or at least most?) versions of Alice in Wonderland!
-
femslash_land looks neat. I don't really, like, understand what land comms are, but people who join them seem to have a lot of fun, plus this one has femslash, so yay!
-I've been watching Buffy season 2! It's sort of a rewatch and sort of not. I started watching Buffy when the third or fourth season was airing and eventually caught most of the episodes in syndication but not quite all of them, and I've never watched the whole series in order, so I'm enjoying making my slow way through it now.

-I went and got a second
kink_bingo card, even though I know I'm not going to get any more points, just 'cause I figure it's nice to have extra prompts, and I guess you can only request them until the 31st (and if you've finished a bingo already).

Merlin ladies
Aug. 14th, 2010 09:09 amHave you seen
astolat's new Morgana vid, Watershed? Go watch omg! Be disturbed by Arthur/Merlin moments you usually find charming! Marvel at how well Vienna Teng's lyrics fit (what could be) Morgana's story! Tell Astolat to come back to Merlin fandom and make us more awesome stuff like porn with Merlin on top!
I went ahead and signed up for
merlinfemfest! Sign-ups close tomorrow, so if you're like me and you've been dithering, make up your mind quick!
( Looking at people's sign-ups and thinking about mine )
Oh hey, I haven't watched any Rizzoli & Isles yet, but I know a few of you have been, so the Rizzoli & Isles Femslash Porn Battle might be relevant to your interests!

kink_bingo help please!
Jun. 3rd, 2010 08:57 pmHey guys, what songs do you think of when you think of bound wrists?
baranduin wants to fill the "bondage (wrist/ankle restraints)" square on her
kink_bingo with her first fanvid and is looking for music ideas. The subject would be Evgeni Plushenko, possibly paired with Johnny Weir, so I'd guess references to ice or cold or Russia would also be good, but the main thing is bondage. Please comment with your ideas!
Also, Merlin fans, please help me decide what to do with my "confined/caged" square! Poll on Dreamwidth only because crossposting them is too difficult. (Poll mentions noncon situations but only in a vague way.) ( ticky box )
Thank you!

Yuletide reveal
Jan. 2nd, 2010 09:31 amYuletide authors were revealed yesterday so now I know who wrote my gifts. Thank you, no longer mysterious authors!
-
izzybeth wrote Four Completely Unconnected Scenes In 1st c. Judea (Life of Brian).
-
emiime wrote Rejoicing As An Integer (Harold/Kumar), as well as the wonderful Graceland fic that I recced a few days ago.
-
jain wrote Harold and Kumar and Maria and Vanessa Go to Bed. Together.
I was so happy about this one because I'd requested Harold/Kumar but also said I didn't want girlfriend bashing, and then here was this great little fic with the girlfriends, and it turns out it's written by the person who's running
ladies1st, the Star Trek Reboot Gynocentric Fic Exchange about women that went live yesterday. I'm not really into Star Trek but I'm in favor of stories about women.
Here are the fics I wrote:
-But This Is My Home Now, 5422 words, rated PG, for the 2007 movie The Visitor.
Summary: Five times Mouna Khalil was right where she wanted to be.
( Writing this )
-On This Shore of the World, Alberto/Ernesto (or gen), 1100 words, rated PG, for the 2004 movie The Motorcycle Diaries.
This is one of my favorite movies. It's based on a true story of a road trip Ernesto Guevara (later called Che) and his friend Alberto Granado did around South America in 1952, and it's rather slashy. ( Several attempts )
-Sick, Kee and Miriam, 1007 words, rated PG-13, for the 2006 movie Children of Men.
This is another one of my favorite movies and it's the third time I've written fic for it. ( Kee )

Yuletide fics are up! I'm really happy about the gifts I received! Some awesome mystery person got my request for Monty Python's Life of Brian and wrote Four Completely Unconnected Scenes In 1st c. Judea. It is just the kind of wackiness I was hoping for, with environmentalists protesting against the Romans, Judith and Loretta discovering feminism, and a special guest appearance by Jesus. Yay!
For the first time I also got extra Yuletide treats! Two people decided to write me fics about Harold and Kumar's epically awkward love!
Here are a few other favorites from what I've read so far. ( fandoms: Leverage, Anthropomorfic, Saving Face, Fairy Tales, The Handmaid's Tale )
There are over 2700 stories of 1000 words or more in the regular collection, and a bunch of shorter Yuletide Madness fics will be released soon. The site's a little slow because of all the people using it, but it's been fine for me to read one thing while another is loading. You can browse by fandom or check out other people's rec lists posted to
yuletide. I'll probably do another recs post tomorrow or Monday.
For the first time I also got extra Yuletide treats! Two people decided to write me fics about Harold and Kumar's epically awkward love!
- Rejoicing As And Integer is a lovely quiet fic about Kumar feeling out his feelings about Harold and what that means about who he is (my identity kink hooray!).
- Harold and Kumar and Maria and Vanessa Go to Bed. Together. Kumar's attempt to manipulate their girlfriends results in boyslash and orgy!! Thank you so much, writers! I feel really lucky.
- There's another Harold/Kumar fic that is also great: It's The Thought That Counts, also with awkward boykissing and great character voices.

Happiness day 17: Children of Men fic!
Jul. 17th, 2009 04:50 pmToday I had lunch at a Chinese restaurant and my fortune cookie said, "Share your happiness with others today." :D
I'm happy because
smaragbird wrote a New Year's Resolution fic for Yuletide based on my request for a story about Luke (that is Chiwetel Ejiofor's character) from Children of Men and his mention toward the end of the movie that he had a sister. Children of Men fic, you guys, I'm not the only one who writes it hooray!
smaragbird did Luke/Patrick growing up and falling in love as the world is falling apart! Go read it and share in my angsty apocalyptic happiness! Children of the Fall
In other news, the preview function on Dreamwidth never works for me. I always just get a message saying, "Sorry, there was a problem." I don't see this as a known issue on the Support page. Has anyone else run into it? I don't like not being able to test my (frequently faulty) html before I hit post.
