It's possible I've written fewer words of fic this year than any year since I've been in fandom, and most of that has been short PWPs (plus a few other ficlets that didn't have porn or plot). Yay, I finished my series of Lancelot mini-AUs! I decided to call it Five Ways Lancelot Got What He Always Wanted because they all sort of turned out that way, even though they were all somewhat angsty. I realized a few days ago that if I'd planned a little better I could have gone for an Asexual Characters Bingo, since none of them were really about sex. Too bad I put that handjob in the Freya/Lancelot one. Oh well, it is still a bingo and I will post at the comm tonight! This feels like a good way to round off the year in fic. :)

I had kind of a rough day offline today, but I've been having a great time in fandom lately. Look at these awesome things my friend have made!

-So this weekend I asked yue_ix to look over the Arthur/Merlin ficlet I had written with five squares from my kink_bingo card, If I Cannot Be Your Queen. While we were chatting about it she started drawing a picture of Gwen, inspired by my story but using five kinks from her card and with ending up with a more kink-positive message than I had been using (I was expressing some of my angst about 4x09 and Yue was using kink to turn it into something less angsty). So yeah she came up with this beautiful picture where Gwen has sparkles in her hair!!! If I Can't Go To Your Dungeons by yue_ix, probably not safe for work Gwen art yay!

-Another thing that happened recently was that anatsuno and I were chatting and she said she wished there were more fic with top!Merlin and I said indeed it is a rare and beautiful thing, but that I also thought she would like some of lolafeist's fics where Merlin is such a strong sub that Arthur's kind of in awe of him. And sure enough anat went and podficced The One at a Sex Club where Merlin anon!fails because she liked it so much, and it was very sexy in anat's voice and I loved listening to it, as well as the Community/Doctor Who crossover podfic that is also at that link.

-Then another thing that happened was that I read this beautiful intense Gwaine/Merlin bdsm fic by leashy_bebes and I tweeted that it was great and might be of interest to other fans of top!Merlin, and that I'd love to listen to a podfic of it. So then meri decided to record both that and a lovely safeword fic set in the same universe for me!!! So the other day I got to listen to the very warm and lovely (Safe) Words and then this morning I got to listen to the sexy sexy A Force When We're Together. I feel so lucky!

-Okay and I didn't have anything to do with this thing getting made but it needs to be talked about because GUYS DID YOU SEE THAT dodificus MADE A PODFIC OF VOID AND THAT IT IS 9 HOURS OF SQUIRMERRIFIC TEENAGE DUBCON? If you were in Faculty fandom I'm sure you remember this. But even if you've never seen the movie or read another Faculty fic you can still understand and admire this one. -Oh and hey, there is an informal podfic gift exchange going on right now and I hope the person assigned to me does not feel pressured to record kinky fic or porn if that's not what they're into. I really love all kinds of things including hurt/comfort and gen. This person is probably more organized than me and has already picked out and recorded something, but if they're feeling lost they might find the posts on my dear creator letter tag helpful. <3

The December mini-challenge is to create tiny bingos: five tiny fills in a line. They can be fics or meta or podfics up to 100 words, a single icon, 1 or 2 recs, etc. This is open to everybody, whether or not you've played kink_bingo before. Think signing up for a challenge is a little intimidating or feel bad because you never did anything for the card you have before? Just stop by the comm and choose a line from one of the communal bingo cards.

I got really excited about this challenge yesterday and I came up with this plan to write five drabbles about Lancelot, each a different AU.

Also yesterday I posted 2500 words of Gwen & Merlin gen (with a bit of background Arthur/Gwen and hints of Gwen/Morgana) over at this weekend's camelot_fleet party. It was meant to be the prologue of an epic Gwen fic that I was working on after season 2, but it more or less stands on its own as a quiet reveal and a coda for 2x13.

(I used to write trufax drabbles and genfic all the time, ha ha ha.)

-some people just change your life, you know? - anatsuno reading jinjurly's podfic meta totally made me cry on the bus when I listened on Wednesday. I had read it a couple times before but it just made such an impact to hear it spoken out loud. I love how anat sounds calm and thoughtful but at the same time passionate about it. It made me realize that I quote that essay all the time without realizing I'm doing it, for instance in a post I made at pornspiration the other day about the things people are doing when they listen to podfic. Also this:

i'm tired of the ways that we minimize our own contributions, and the ways that we say we don't deserve our place. i'm tired of being told i'm too involved in 'boosterism' in the podfic community, and i'm tired of seeing people told they are doing it wrong. i'm tired of people saying that some people have accents and some don't. i'm tired of women saying their bodies are ugly, of being ashamed of their voices, and of the things they love, and of hiding their joy for fear of derision.

-Audiometa: Kink_Bingo and Podfic, Perfect Together by Sophinisba
- meri_sefket listened to anat's recording too and was inspired to record the podfic meta that I wrote for kink_bingo in June! That is a less emotional post and half of it is me doing my typical "Look, here is a comm! Here are some things you can do!" spiel, but about halfway through it gets to the park about podfic being inherently kinky I do think it gets really interesting and cool to hear spoken out loud. Meri talks in a really clear and sincere voice and has an American accent that's fairly similar to mine, but she also emphasizes different words than I would have and has a different kind of tone than I probably would have used, and that all makes it so much more interesting to listen to. In that post I quoted both yue_ix and jinjur, so we had Yue record the parts she had written and Meri edited those in, along with clips of anat reading Jinjur! I think the editing is really smooth and I'm just so thrilled that this exists now, wow!

-Podfics and languages (accent extension) a really interesting conversation between yue_ix (who is French Canadian) and emei about podfic from the perspective of non-native English speakers.

-An OK Man Kinda Sorta Tries to Battle - cantarina's podfic of an Inspector Spacetime ficlet by havent_got_a_clue. Ridiculous fake British accents for a ridiculous fic in a ridiculous fake British fandom. IT IS THE BEST.

Yesterday eruthros and thingswithwings posted the Round Four Prize Announcements, including the Arbitrary Mod Prizes. This works as an arbitrary recs list of some of the exciting things posted at kink_bingo this June-September, and I was thrilled to get a prize for Best Praxis for my essay about the kinkiness of podfic and my verbally humiliating Azula/Ty Lee podfic. I am also getting ready to run a podfic for beginners workshop at the pornspiration comm on LJ next week. I was thinking a series of posts over the course of the week. Let me know if you have suggestions or would like to help out (or make a promo banner)! Anyone over 18 can join the comm, they just keep posts locked for the sake of teambuilding and all.

La la la. Oh hey speaking of user interfaces, how about the new gmail? I'm keeping my sophinisba account the same for now (cherry blossoms!) but on my other account I switched to the new look and the Oceans theme. It's so pretty! I love the bit of translucency and the way the modules sometimes seem to be floating over the background - I find it very soothing (even though I don't like being on boats etc. in real life).

Okay so back to podfic talk! The reason I want to do that workshop next week is that it'll overlap with pod_aware/pod_aware! Mod paraka and friends have been working on some podfic meta podcasts that will be posted then, and I'm looking forward to hearing how those turn out. (I will tell you a secret: I spend a lot more time listening to non-fandom podcasts these days than podfics. I find the conversation style easier to follow when I'm riding the bus or whatever than a fic. There are times when I listen to a lot of podfic but I am not doing that now.) paraka would also like to emphasize that you don't have to be a podfic maker to participate in this. You might be someone who likes to listen to podfic, or an author who is okay with people making podfics of their work. As far as I understand it, all you have to do is post something during the week (the something could be a fic or a picspam and doesn't need to be podfic-related) and include a little blurb and a link to a post at the comm. It should be fun and will help us out.
